Levi ended up sleeping next to Hiiro that night. Or trying to. But he couldn't fall asleep with Hiiro having awful nightmares the whole time.
Levi did his best to calm Hiiro down, but there wasn't really much he could do.
"It's too dark," Hiiro kept muttering every so often.
And Levi would just listen, wishing he could hurt the people who had hurt Hiiro but knowing that Ayato was right. He couldn't afford to split his attention. He had to prioritize Hiiro.

Ayato came back the next day with Yuki. "She really wants to see him..."
Levi immediately shook his head. "He's not ready. She's not ready. I...I still need to fix him. Somehow."
Ayato gave Yuki a painful smile. "Sorry, Yuki. He just needs more time."
Yuki hesitated before nodding, dropping her eyes to the ground.
Levi shut the door, remaining outside with Ayato and Yuki.
While he talked with Ayato, however, Yuki inched closer to the door and slowly turned the handle, disappearing into the room unnoticed.
She went over the the bed, stumbling because all of the lights had been turned off. She couldn't make out any of the details of Hiiro, but she saw the shape of his body and drew closer. "Hiiro?"
Hesitantly, she reached out her hand to touch him.
Hiiro screamed.
Yuki drew back quickly only to have Levi yank her by her shoulders the rest of the way out, slamming the door in her face as he went back to comfort Hiiro. The screams eventually stopped and he returned outside after a few minutes.
"You-" He cut himself off from completely tearing Yuki apart, but every molecule that made to his body was clenched in anger. "Nobody touches Hiiro," he snapped. "He hates it. Can't stand it." He bit down on his teeth. "I told you to stay out. You disobeyed a direct order from your commanding officer."
"But-" Yuki began. "I just wanted to see him...I miss him-"
"That man isn't Hiiro. He's just the shattered remains. That man isn't the one you miss so stay the hell away from him from now on until I can get him back."
With that, Levi slammed the door shut in their faces.
Yuki hit her lip, looking up at Ayato. "I screwed up..."
He nodded. "You don't understand the severity of the damage. If you keep trying to connect with Hiiro, you're not only going to hurt him, but you're going to hurt yourself too." He paused, trying to soften his voice. "Yuki, this isn't something you can help him with. He needs to get through this on his own." He paused. "With Levi," he revised.
"But why is Levi okay and I'm not?" Yuki asked, clenching her fists.
"I don't know," Ayato said, "but maybe because Levi is the one who carried Hiiro out of the darkness. He saved him. Hiiro is having trouble connecting with reality, but on some level, I think he recognizes that."
"But I was there too," Yuki complained, insistent. "It's not fair!"
Ayato stared at her. "Are you done throwing a fit? Because Hiiro is suffering and you're complaining just because you can't be the one to nurse him back to health. Yuki, you're my sister and I love you, but right now, you're annoying the crap out of me."
