Four days later, Yuki was practicing hand-to-hand combat with Mikasa, getting a good workout as they were fairly equal in skill.

"Hello, girls," Jean greeted before amending his statement. "I mean...girl." He winked at Mikasa. "So? Want to hang out?"

"Wait, what do you mean 'girl'?" Yuki asked, resting her hand on her hip in offense.

"I mean Mikasa," he said, blatantly staring at Yuki's lack of chest before shaking his head sadly.

"Horseface, can I punch you?" Yuki asked, glaring at him.

Jean laughed and dodged her fist. "Nope. Anyhow, guess what?"

Yuki was too irritated to talk to him, so Mikasa sighed and filled in the role.

"What?" she asked, managing to sound not at all interested.

Jean just smiled. "You know that maintenance asshole?"

"No, I don't," Yuki said, narrowing her eyes at his words. "Who are you talking about?"

Jean sighed, unable to detect her sarcasm. "You know, the guy who got his arm chopped off because he didn't know how to use his gear?"

"So that's what happened, huh?" Yuki said, still glaring. "Not ringing a bell," she replied, refusing to respond.

Jean missed her intent once again."Yeah, I guess even a girl like you wouldn't remember a loser like him...anyway, good news! He's off the base!" He folded his arms behind his neck, grinning.

Yuki's eyes widened. "Wait, what?! You'd better be joking, Jean!"

"What? I thought you said you didn't remember him? Oh well. Whatever. He's gone now. I heard it straight from that freaky scientist lady."

"Hanji?" Eren piped up.

"What did she say exactly?" Yuki pressed, but Jean turned to first address Eren, nodding.

"That's the one...Creepy..." He shivered.

Eren shrugged, nodding. "She's a bit strange...but she was telling me that the reason Levi's being so pissy lately is 'cause they shipped that guy off the base to a better medical facility. Something about graft vs. host disease or something weird like that...sounded serious."

"Tch, of course that's the reason!" Pissed off in general but specifically toward Jean, she pulled down on his neck collar so he was eye level with her, as she was even shorter than Levi. "Jean, this is your stupid fault!"

"How do you figure? Well, it doesn't matter. He's gone."

~time skip to one year later~

The 104th Regiment was called to assemble in Levi's quarters.  Not much had changed in one year, minus the small fact that Yuki found herself falling in like (because she couldn't be sure that it was love just yet) with Captain Levi. The Captain, of course, didn't know about this at all.

He stared at them with narrowed eyes. "I would like you all to welcome your new squad leader..."

The cadets shifted slightly, curious.

"...Captain Hiiro Takada."

"Who's that?" Jean asked, frowning.

I've heard that name before...but where? Yuki wondered, ignoring Jean.

From outside the door entered a moderately tall young man. While he was slim, every inch was muscle, testament to long hours spent training, and training some more. He nodded at Levi. "Captain."
