Prologue ~ New Beginnings

"Why?"

The rain was pouring hard upon the grassy soil, the gravestones shiny, as droplets of rain slid on them.

"Bakit ikaw pa?"

Leni stood in front of the grave, something she hasn't done since the burial. Rain soaked through her hair, her clothes and her skin. She did not seem to care however, in fact she welcomed the rain. It was cold, bitter and damp. Exactly how she would want to describe how she felt at that moment.

"Sana ako nalang...ako nalang..."

She knelt on the ground, the mud sticking to her knees, and touched the grave stone. There was no warmth, all she felt was the rock cold marble beneath her fingertips. She traced the name carved upon it and involuntarily, tears begin to flow.

He was gone.

"Hindi ba pwedeng bumalik ka nalang?"

Her warm tears fell in contrast to the cold rain drops.

"Di ba yun pwede?"

She sobbed uncontrollably, her body shaking with grief and remose. The cold weather only made her feel colder. She hugged herself feeling more alone than ever.

"Gusto kitang makausap please."

It was as if her prayers had been answered. The prickling sensation that the rain gave was gone. She looked up only to find that she was now sheltered underneath an umbrella.

"Mababasa ka niyan ma'am," the man holding the umbrella said. She looked at him, but her eyes were blury with the tears that she shed.

"Kunin mo," the man knelt on the ground and placed the umbrella's handle into Leni's hands. Afterwhich he stood back up and walked away.

"Teka!" She shouted at the man while wipping her tears dry. Leni pushed herself up. "Teka lang!"

But when she looked around, there was nobody in sight.

She turned around and yet there was still no one around. Slowly the heavy rain eased bit by bit until it stopped altogether.

She dropped the umbrella down.

Leni looked up. The sun was starting to peek through the dark clouds.

As the sunlight hit her tear streaked face, she smiled.

You never did like seeing me cry.
