Chapter 13 ~ Anything For Love

It would have been a perfect night for lovers.

Stars were scattered brightly in the sky, the moon peaked through the clouds, underneath the twilight canopy was a candle-lit dinner for two.

The orchestra played exquisitely to entertain the ears and touch the heart.

But the couple was too busy with their own thoughts to notice the romantic setting.

He thought of a woman, but she was not the one sitting in front of him.

She thought of a man, but he was not the one sitting in front of her.

He took a sip from his glass and caught sight of her absentmindedly cutting the meat up but never eating a single piece.

His thoughts drift towards her as he was once again reminded why they were having this dinner tonight.

"Anong emergency ba ang pinuntahan mo nung isang araw?"

She stops cutting the meat and looks intently at him.

"Nung isang araw?" her train of thoughts have been disturbed and she had to clarify what he meant.

"Anong emergency ba ang pinuntahan mo nung isang araw? Anong emergency ba yun?" He asked again.

Leni hesitates for a second, but decides to tell him the truth since she found no reason to hide it from him either. She already told Digong about her and Bongbong anyway.

She tells him about the call she received from Andanar and about how badly Digong was hurt. Bongbong's calm expression changes. His brows furrowed and his lips curled downwards.

"Aren't the two of you friends? I think you should know this too. Siguro you should visit him din."

He slams his hand on the table, the utensils clink against each other.

"Bakit ka pa pumunta dun?" he asked. "You missed our time together para puntahan si Digong?" He glares at her, "Paano na ako, Leni? Paano na ako? Ano pa ba ako sayo at mas pinili mo pa siya kesa sakin?"

Leni could feel the flame of jealousy emanating from Bongbong. She runs her hand through her hair and sighs. She stares back at him shaking her head.

"Wala naman kaming ginawang masama. I just visited him. Yun lang."

He crosses his arms above his chest.

"So you've reconciled after he's hurt you? Sino ba ang sumasalo sayo tuwing wala siya? Tuwing sinasaktan ka niya? Tuwing wala siya sa tabi mo? Diba ako? Palagi akong nandito para sayo pero kailan ka ba nandyan para sa akin? Bakit ba hindi ka nalang makontento sa akin."

"I'm telling you again. Wala kaming ginagawang masama. Wala kang dapat ikaselos."

"Wala ba? Eh yang puso mo? Kaya mo ba yang pigilan? Mahal mo pa rin siya diba?"

She stared at him wide-eyed. She opened her mouth to answer, but she could find the words to tell him. Did she still love him? She knew the answer, but it was something Bongbong would not want to hear. Still she wants to give him a chance. She closed her mouth and looked at her hands.

If she said she didn't love Digong she'd only be lying.

"Mahal mo pa din si Digong diba?" he asked once again.

She gazed back at him.

"Gusto mo ba talagang sagutin ko ang tanong na yan?"

He looked into her eyes. He knew what the answer was. He knew where her heart was. He looked into her eyes, but it wasn't him on her mind.
