Crystal and I sat on my porch Saturday morning. The day after Dan left. I had cranked up the radio in the kitchen.
"Schools almost over." Crystal was saying. I was only half listening, the other half of me was caught up in the music drifting out the open window. "What are you doing this summer?"
I leaned back on my elbows. "Planning for collage but not a lot after that."
Crystal snorted. "Enjoy it while you can."
I looked up at her, remembering she was a senior. "Are we going to stay friends after this?" I asked. She nodded.
"Yep." She replied. That was as much convincing I needed. It has been three weeks since we met. Dan gradually warmed up to her.
We sat in silence for a while. Other then the music, not much happened. In the back of my mind was a question that never seemed to leave me alone since Dan had brought it up that one day.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" I blurted out. Crystal looked down at me and laughed.
"What?" She raised an eyebrow. Then her she stopped laughing. "Oh your serious."
I didn't look at her.
"No." Was all she said.
We sat a little longer. "Are you straight?" I asked.
"Yeah. Why?" Crystal turned completely to face me. I felt my face redden.
"I'm gay." The words fell out of my mouth before I could stop them.
"Cool."
I sat up. "Your not bothered by that?" I was surprised she didn't get up and leave right there. She shook her head.
"Why should it matter to me? You're still human, aren't you?" She gave me a warm smile.
"No I'm an alien." I said seriously. Crystal laughed. So did I.
"Seriously though it doesn't bother me." She explained. "And um...if you don't mind me asking, do you have a boyfriend?"
I rested my chin in my hands and my elbows on my legs. "Yeah I do." That's all I said.
Crystal didn't say anything. I couldn't tell if she was thinking it was Dan or just didn't care. Either way we didn't say much after that.
She just got up and starting gathering flowers from my yard. I followed. "What are you doing?" I shoved my hands into my hoodie pockets and watched in amusement. A warm wind blew through crystals hair as she held a flower to her face.
"Making you a flower crown." She explained before bending over and picking more flowers. I laughed.
"Not all gay boys wear flower crowns." I said but bent over to gather some anyway. Crystal walked back to the porch and set down a good amount of flowers.
"But you should." She went to work. "Besides, your boyfriend will thank me. You'll look adorable, Phil." Crystal exasperated. I sat down next to her and watched as she fingers weaved the stems together.
She finished fifteen minutes later. "It won't last very long." I let her place it in my hair. "The flowers are gonna die..." A sigh escaped her lips. Quickly, I pulled her up and dragged her into the house.
In the bathroom, I stood admiring my new accessory. Crystal watched me adjust it in the mirror. "I love it." I smiled.
We took a picture together. I sent it to Dan. He replied almost immediately.
Cutie ;)
I smiled to myself. Crystal peeked over my shoulder then immediately backed off. "Sorry I'm trying to work on staying out of people's personal life." She bit her nails. I stood there contemplating if I should tell her about Dan. Sure she knows him but does she really?
Maybe she didn't even see who the text was from. I realized there would be a heavy weight on my shoulders if I didn't end up telling her.
Maybe another day. "It's okay really." I layed a hand on her head as I passed her on the way out of the bathroom.
Eventually Crystal headed back for the door. "I should get going." She jungled her car keys in her hand.
"You don't wanna sleep over?" I suggest. Crystal shook her head.
"I'll pass but thanks for the offer." She waved before stepping out of my house.
The minute her car left the driveway, I dashed upstairs to skype Dan.

I'm conflicted! I think people underestimate how much I love fictional characters, Youtubers, singers... literally so many people are lovable.
