The next day, Savannah and I talked it out. I admitted that I definitely overreacted, and I apologized.

The day was a blur again, and I felt extremely exhausted by the end of the day.

When I got home, I went straight to my room, to study.

Looking up, I noticed that its only 4:10. Huh. I did only spend half an hour on homework and studying, I thought as I packed my bag for tomorrow. Deciding that I can waste an hour or so napping before dad comes home, I lay down, closing my eyes. The last thoughts that roamed my brain was Kaleb.

2.5 hours later:

"CLAUDIA! YOU FUCKING WHORE! WHERE IN THE HELL IS MY FUCKING DINNER YOU PIECE OF SHIT!?" I suddenly bolt up from my bed. Shit! I must have over slept, oh I'm so dead! I mentally cursed myself as I quietly make my way downstairs, I fear what is to come.

Entering the kitchen, Dan instantly grabs a hold on my neck, pushing me up against the wall.

"I specifically told you to make dinner for me! What is on the table?!" Gasping for air, Dan loosens his grip, just enough for one word to slip through.

"N-nothing!" I gasp, feeling my airways slowly shut down. I start seeing black dots as my eyes start to droop down. Before I close my eyes, I feel Dan let go of my neck, and I slump down on the ground.

=============

I bolted up, gasping for air and flailing my arms in attempt to figure out where I am.

I was on the dark and cold basement floor, and I felt goosebumps ride up my body.

As I slowly get up from the ground, as tricking pain erupts from my right ankle, and I cry out in pain.

My whole body aches, and tears pour out of my eyes as I slowly push myself up again, slowly crawling up the stairs and into the dining room.

As I make my way to my room, I see Dan passed out on the living room couch, a bottle in his hand and beer cans scattered the floor.

Carefully, I avoided the creeky floors and slipped into the room and turned the lights on. I was afraid of the damage he had done this time.

Looking at my reflection, I see that my upper lip has been busted open, dried blood coating the open wound. No bruises on my face, thank god.

I couldn't have Savannah and my new classmates questioning me this early into the school year. I slowly lift up my shit, and I see two black and blue bruises forming around my abdomen and rib cage.

Wincing in pain, I slowly but carefully bend down to inspect my ankle. There seems to be no broken bones, but just soreness.

Thinking hard, I finally remembered Dan blowing kicks to my stomach as I lay helpless on the kitchen floor, just before grabbing me and throwing me down the basement. That's probably where I've hurt my ankle......

Feeling exhausted, I slip away into my bed, hoping that maybe, just maybe, today will be my last.

==============

"Today, we will be playing dodgeball! I will split you guys up into teams of two. You know the rules," says coach Rimer. As he's counting down the students to split them up, I hug myself in pain.

"Claudia, you are on team two," coach says, and i meekly make my way across to the other side.

"Savannah, you're team one." Coach says, and I frown. On my team, I am with Kaleb and Ivan.

As I'm approaching my team, Kaleb walks up to me with a smirk and says, "watch out for the balls princess."

Once coach blows the whistle, everyone runs towards the middle, grabbing as many balls as they can, and I stay in the back, afraid of the impact.

I watch as everyone plays ruthlessly, some getting hit in the face, others dodging the balls.

Without noticing, Kaleb runs up to me and swings me around 360 degrees, and I let out a scream.

"The game is to play and dodge princess, standing still is an easy target," he says before letting me go.

"I'd prefer not to play," I snarl back.

"Then get hit so you can get out," he laughs and throws two balls, hitting two other students. Out.

"I'm not a violent person," I say, coming up beside him.

Without warning, he grabs my wrists and pulls me towards him.

"What the-" and then I felt it.

I felt the air rush past me from a ball that was aimed at my head. Had Kaleb not moved me, I would have been hit.

He lets me go. "Gotta be careful out here princess. Everyone's out to get you." He smiles, before throwing two more balls, hitting the opposite teammates.

I look over, and there is just Neal and Savannah left. Then, realization hit me too. It's just Kaleb and I left on our side!!!!

"Oh the game is on," Kaleb says before running and grabbing as many balls as he could.

"Can't you just get them out? I really don't want to play this game! Besides, it's pointless. Why would coach want us to hurt each-"

In my side view, I saw two balls coming for me. One from Savannah and one from Neal. I stand there, eyes wide, fear trickling into me.

Before I knew it, Kaleb threw a total of four balls before knocking me down, his arms wrapped around me and we land with him on top.

Then the strikes hit. Kaleb was out.

Then I heard cheering. Our team cheering.

"You're welcome." Kaleb smirks before getting off of me. I looked around and noticed that the four balls Kaleb threw, two of them hit Savannah and Neal, which makes me the last person standing. We won. Wait- I won!

Everyone starts cheering, and a smile is plastered on my face. I run up to Kaleb and stick out my tongue.

"I won the game without playing! Ha!" I smiled.

"Yeah yeah yeah, take all the credit princess." He says before making his way towards the boy's locker room.

Savannah catches up to me and throws herself at me, giving me a big hug.

"Ow!" I wince as she hits my rib cage accidentally. I could see Kaleb turning around to look at me, his brows pulling together, but he slips into the locker room.

"Nothing," I lied. "Just the impact was unexpected." I lied again.

"C'mon, let's go get changed!" She smiles before pulling me after her.
