  ~ Chapter #19 : Departure ~

"…As ready as I'm going to get." Aleks griped sheepishly after he was woken up from his slight unresponsive state by Eddie's question; his ashy-amber eyes flaunting a lacklaster glaze as he moved his gaze sluggishly to be pasted onto the presence beside of him. He read Eddie's facial expression with a crammed revision, and soon looked away when he realized he had been staring. Aleks' line of sight explored the wooden floor as Eddie blinked, and opened his mouth minimally to respond.

"Yeah? Well, then- I guess let's go." Eddie suggested with a briefly uncertain tone of voice, before he went silent for a moment to intently observe Aleks' mannerisms. As the Latino's eyes dragged his gaze over the brunette's gesticulations, he noted how the Russian's tail seemed so lifeless; it was droopy and hasn't swayed purposefully for years. Moving his eyes along, he recorded mentally how his dog ears seemed to sag even more than usual, and they even appeared to not be deathly intrigued with their job of hearing. His gaze flicking itself downwards, Eddie blinked dejectedly when he noticed that Aleks' shoulders also drooped with no motivation, and his facial expression displayed nothing but a remorseful spangle draping his face's features, as his eyes were not immediate to meet the Latino's determined studies. Quickly becoming conscious of how worn the shorter teen was with his observations, a grimace pulled downwards at the very corners of Eddie's lips, and caused him to bite back the urge to hug Aleks and just keep in his arms to let him know that he was safe. The Russian was so, not dilapidated, but- damaged.

"All right…" Aleks' unforeseen, feeble voice slashed away the trance Eddie virtually skidded into, and caused the Latino to speedily get back to reality. The obsidian-haired teen swallowed the solemn lump that had loomed in his throat, and nodded to show he indeed heard Aleks' agreement. He sighed sympathetically before unzipping his lips to speak.

"Let's try not to be too noisy when going down the stairs, and once we get to the bottom floor, you bolt to the front door as quickly as you can, okay, Aleks?" Eddie planned verbally, his eyebrows falling pointedly as he sustained the preparation in his mind. Whilst Eddie trailed off with his plan mentally, Aleks blinked at the sudden instructions that were uttered, and gulped down visibly his built-up fears and scared anticipations.

"Where are you going to be, Eddie…?" Aleks asked hastily on impulse and in an unpremeditated whine, "what are you going to be doing…?" He was panicked, and just searching for answers. He didn't want to be by his lonesome.

Upon hearing the unanticipated whined questions of his love insterest's, "Oh, me? I'm going to be right behind you, Aleks." Eddie assured hopefully, his dark brown eyes watching the Russian avidly to identify whether or not he was believing him. "Everything's going to be all right, trust me." The Latino may or may not have told Aleks falsely. He was just attempting tosupply optimism, and buoyancy. He wasn't even positive of what he was contemplating to do himself- 'don't do anything drastic, yet.' Jake had told him, so should he really abide by his own words? He said he wouldn't do anything to Aleks' parents, so- he has to be faithful. 'Can't mess this up yet. Not yet.'
