~ Chapter #14: People and Habits ~
After Aleks had refused to say exactly what the conversation through his phone was about, Jake grunted at the lack of answer and explanation to his question and went on about how Aleks could tell him anything, that he wouldn’t judge him for what he explained to him. The brunette didn’t respond to the assurance and just dug into the spaghetti he received without having to ask for it. He didn’t really show much participation in Jake’s attempt to speak to him; his head was slightly bowed as he seemed to be focusing on eating and not displaying interest. To be honest, Aleks didn’t want to be informed excessively about Jake’s trustworthy nature; he already knew how his best friend for years was like and how he acted- yet Jake persisted on telling him over and over again each time Aleks seemed to be hiding something.
“Seriously, Aleks; you can tell me.” Jake spoke insipidly, his voice seeming to descend more and more into a whining state even though he tried to mask it with disappointment and an artificial boredom.
“…I know I can, I choose not to. Honor the secrets.” Aleks mumbled tetchily as he finished off his small bowl of his spaghetti and set it on the couch’s arm. He folded his arms across his chest and watched the television’s flickering movements as he went plain-faced.
“Wait, why do you choose not to tell me??” Jake’s tone was, to some extent, mar- and his façade that laced his words shattered in that moment, Aleks noted.
“Because, it’s personal business. You don’t need to know everything that goes on in my life, Jake.”
“…I might not need to, but I would like to.”
“Well, stop wishing for that; you’re not going to achieve what you’re striving for.” Aleks couldn’t help but scoff and swiftly moved to get up from the couch; his hands hastily shooting out to get his empty bowl and his iPhone from the cushion next to where he was just sitting. He didn’t even give Jake a glance before making his way to the kitchen, rinsing out his bowl, and putting it into a proper place in the dishwasher in one of the counters beside of the sink where in which he currently stood. He slipped his phone into his hoodie pocket and unconsciously placed his hands on the rim of the sink; his body somewhat leaning onto the stainless steel appliance. Man, he was a dick. Truthfully, Aleks really did not intend on being and sounding cold to Jake, or anyone for that matter; it was just that- people were always in his ass, with their so-called ‘caring intentions.’ It pissed him off, but he concluded that it didn’t enable him to be an asshole. It didn’t allow him to act completely different, he just wished people would sometimes take a hint; he won’t tell you, so stop asking.
Releasing the sink’s edgings from his feeble grip, Aleks sighed at a scarcely-audible volume, combed a hand through his iniquitous brown tuffs of hair, and eventually moved the hand that tugged its way through the messy strands of inedible chocolate to rub the back of his neck; his legs carrying him to the living room and allowing him to observe the room’s ambience again. Breathing inwardly before speaking in the direction of Jake, “…Sorry, Jake; what I just said was really churlish, but- I just don’t need the excessive caring and nosiness right now…” Aleks muttered impassively and made his way upstairs without waiting for Jake to react or even blink at him. He trudged up the steps that jutted out at him before going to the bathroom and then sauntering over to his room to jump onto his bed and sink into the lovely mattress that was so plush against his body. The brunette breathed with more relief filing into his veins; his mind was silenced from its previous overwhelmed state. It seemed like his bed was the only thing he needed to relax from a day’s worth of stress and confusion.
