Chapter 1: Leaving home

"Get the hell up Alexandra!"

I groaned as I shifted in bed, trying to get a few more minutes of sleep. I hated getting up early. To top it off, I was leaving today. My mom was sending me off to some stupid camp, to supposedly teach me some manners and put me in my place. She didn't understand. All I ever wanted was her attention, but she ignored me. Now she's sending me off and honestly, I'm done with this shit.

I had learnt to shut down emotionally and make myself numb over time, so that's what I did.

I quickly checked my room to make sure I had everything. I saw the picture of my dad and I on my dresser. I remember that day clearly. We were at the beach, and I had thrown a bucketful of sand on him. He chased me down the beach and we played in the water there. After some time he picked me up and I sat in his shoulders, looking out at the beautiful sunset and the ocean. My mom clicked this picture then.

Picking up the photo and hugging it one last time, I felt a tear slip down my cheek. Putting the picture back in its place i walked out of my room. I settled in my car and drove off, but not before noticing my mother standing on the driveway.

The drive was pretty boring, about 3 hours. When I reached, I was overwhelmed with the amount of people that were milling about. I never thought a camp like this would have these many people. All looked to be my age, save for the two or three middle aged counselors. I wish there was at least one hot counselor to make this trip worthwhile.

I approached a small building at the gate that had a sign with a faint 'Main Office' written on it. It had eggs and paint on it. When I entered, a woman sitting at a small desk looked up and gave me a weary smile. She asked some questions, noted down some stuff, then gave me a cabin key and a map. There were countless log cabins here and six students shared each one. I tried to use the map to locate my cabin, keyword here being tried.

After falling face first in a mud puddle and tripping over thin air, I did a little victory dance when I finally found the cabin.

Nobody was in the cabin, so I left my stuff on an empty bunk bed and left the room. I took a stroll outside. As the evening drew to an end, it became colder. I really needed to head back as I wasn't wearing something warm. It took me less than five minutes to take the dusty trail back to camp.

I was going to my cabin, but a shrill high pitched voice stopped me. "Welcome to Camp Cali! I hope you have a great time here! Meet by the main hall for dinner and then at the central park for some fun games!"

I didn't bother going to the cabin anymore, seeing as it was dinner time already. Just before I entered, someone wrapped their arms around my waist from behind and picking me up, took me to the backside of the building. I tried to escape, but in vain. Suddenly, I felt a warm breath down my neck "Hey princess, funny seeing you here." I did a double take. What?? What the hell is he doing here?? I thought.

He let me go and stepped back once he realised I wasn't struggling anymore. My jaw dropped open as I saw the one person I thought I would never meet again. "Missed me?" And everything came rushing back.
