Hope you guys liked my last chapter. Honestly I just sort of wing it with the chapters half the time. Hopefully it keeps working out!
-----------------------------------------------------------

I walk through school the next few days, not fully aware of everything around me. I'm still kinda shocked. The way DJ blew up like that really came out of nowhere. I see him around school but he avoids me, not sitting with us at lunch. By Thursday though I think it's something else. It's not that he seems mad at me. More like scared. Also, he doesn't look to good. I mean, I was out in the rain too, but only for like two minutes. The walk back to the house takes at least five to ten.

My theory is confirmed today, Friday, since he's not here. So, like the amazingly awesome friend I am, I go to his teachers and get his homework. The last bell rings and I'm about to head over to DJ's when Teri runs up behind me.

"Hey Kat," she says, "I know your on your way to have an adorable apologizing scene with your boo," I roll my eyes, "but I have something for ya!". She pulls something out of her backpack and hands it to me.

I gasp as I see what it is. It's two bracelets still in there package. The writing on it says 'Partners (in crime)' and the bracelets have little handcuff charms!

"I know that your birthday is a few months away, but I just couldn't wait to give it to you." She says. I smile and give her a big bear hug. Probably crushing her lungs in the process.

We put them on each other and wave goodbye as I head out of the school.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I knock on the door and wait. I don't really feel comfortable just walking in even though Nanna always says I'm welcome anytime. After a moment, the door opens and she smiles at me.

"Oh, hello dear! I was wondering when you were coming over! Haven't seen you since Monday. Come in, come in!". I walk in and set DJ's homework on the kitchen table.

"Hi Nanna. Yeah I've, uh, been busy the last few days. Um, is DJ here? He wasn't at school today." I ask.

She smiles, "Yes he's here. Poor boy, been sick since he ran in the rain Monday. It started as a cold, but this morning he had a high fever.". I notice she has her shoes and coat on. She also has her purse with her.

I ask, "Are you going somewhere Nanna?". She seems to remember something.

"Oh yes, I'm actually on my way to the pharmacy to get DJ some medicine.".

"At the pharmacy? He's that sick?" I ask worriedly. She seems to realize something and rephrases.

"Oh no no no, it's just that, I can only find the kind of medicine he needs at the pharmacy across town. Since it might take a while, could you stay and watch him for me? I don't like leaving him alone when he's sick.". I nod and tell her I will. She smiles then heads out to her car. She gets in and drives away.

Just then, I hear a door open in the hall and bare feet running on the hard wood floor. I walk down the hall in time to see the bathroom door close. I walk over and lightly knock on the door. "Hey DJ," I say softly through the door, "you okay?". I hear throw up and then the toilet flushes.

"Oh yeah," he answers hoarsely through the door,"puking my guts out since three this morning is totally okay.". Well good to know he's okay enough for sass. I hear the sink run, then he opens the door. Woah.

He does look bad.

His hair is messed up and sticking to his forehead. His eyes, nose and cheeks are red but he's pale at the same time. I can tell that he's totally miserable and droopy. He's putting up that sarcasm wall. I smile up at him and sigh.

"Alright mister" I say "back to bed. You need rest. Come on.". I start pushing him to his room despite his pointless complaints. We get to his room and he gets in bed, pulling the sheets up to his neck and curling up in a ball. I laugh and look around a bit. His room's hardly changed.

The walls are still green. His dark wood dresser is sitting next to his closet, and his bookshelf is in the corner. He has a black desk against the wall under the window with notebooks and papers all over it. He also has an acoustic guitar leaning against the desk.

"Imma go make you some soup okay?" I say. He just nods, eyes still closed. I smile and go into the kitchen. As I walk down the hall, I pass a family picture. It's DJ's mom on the right and his dad next to her. DJ is in the middle sitting on a stool smiling that big smile he always used to have.

The smile I miss. I sigh and go to make his soup.

When the soup is done I put it in a bowl and walk into DJ's room. He's sitting up in his bed with the blanket wrapped around him. He also has nerd reading glasses on. Didn't know he needed those. Haha, dork. I knock on the door frame and he looks up at me.

He takes the glasses off and places them on the small stand next to his bed. I walk over to give him the soup. He takes a bite and his face lights up a bit. "Wow," he says, "this is good."

"Was there any doubt of my cooking skills?" I ask.

"A little bit."he says.

"Well gee, thanks. And your welcome" I laugh.

"Thanks."

We talk for a while before he runs back to the bathroom. I decide I'll wait for him this time. He comes back and his hands are shaking and he looks as pale as before. Guess he's still not okay.

As he sits down he's quiet for a while. Finally I say, "So, we should talk about Monday..."
