A cool breeze brushed against the grass, blowing softly amongst the trees. Almost like it was whispering to them a secret. So calm and quiet. Sarah sat at the edge of the forrest staring up at the sky watching the sun paint it's canvas with pink and purple hues.

She sighed, thinking over her past school year. Everyone is off to college and getting their own place, while she's still home. She never did figure out what she wanted to do with herself. So many years has past and yet she still feels lost. Mom, why couldn't you be here when I needed you.. Why did you have to run off and leave me behind with her.

She took a deep breath in and slowly exhaled. Her stepmom never supported her much on anything she does. She barely even cared when she turned eighteen or graduated. Isn't that suppose to be the most happiest day for, not only her, but her parents? You would think they would feel proud but it's like she doesn't exist. It was always about Toby. I love Toby no matter what, I did so much for him. Just wished she knew.

A white feather floated to her lap. There must be someone out there who cares. She smiled as she picked up the feather. They say angels leave hints that they are near with pennys or white feathers. They always seemed to pop up in her time of distressed thoughts. She looked around and like every moment she found nothing. No birds, no figures, just the water in front of her and the trees behind. She looked back up at the sky and notice the sky turning grey.  Better head home before the Duchess of Drama gets mad again.

Putting the feather in her pocket she stood up brushing the grass from her pants and started to jog home. Taking one look back to the forrest before turning the corner down the road.

The sky darkened as she walked up her steps and opened the door. It was quiet, shockingly. I geuss they are out to dinner without me again.

Sarah noticed a note on the table and walked over. It was her dad's handwriting. Of course she wouldn't bother to write.

Sarah,

I do apologize but we waited as long as we could before we headed out for our reservations. Toby is spending the night at his godparent's house. We thought you needed a break from him for one night. There's leftovers in the fridge, we can make plans together for another night.

Love always,
Dad

Sarah crumbled the note and threw it in the trash. It's always the same. She stomped upstairs to her room and locked her door. She sighed looking around. A lot has changed over the years. Most of her stuffed animals and dolls are gone. All that surrounds her are books and little trinkets.

She walked over to her bed kneeling down to pull out a box. Under the lid revealed white feathers and random flowers of all sorts that landed near her on her toughest days. She placed her newest feather into the box and closed it back, returning it under her bed. There's always hope.

Looking under the bed she found another old box that was pushed all the way to the wall. It's all dusty from all the years it sat there. She hesitated when she pulled it out. Brushing the dust off, and letting out a sneeze. She just stared at it. She hasn't opened that box since she shoved everything in it. It was a hat box about two feet wide all around. She knew what was hidden inside; memories of him.

Sarah always thought of him after their encounter but through the years she slowly pushed him back in her mind. She was young and arrogant at the time. Her brother meant everything to her. She didn't mean anything that she said. Just sometimes her life was too much for her to bare. Everything just seemed to have hit all the wrong buttons that night. She just never thought her words would lead to consequences. However, she learned from her mistakes. She opened the box slowly and found all her trinkets and posters that reminded her of him. The book was right on top. She remember when she came across that book. She found it in the park by the tree line one day. No one was nearby, and it was in great shape, like it never been opened. Plays were her weakness, she loved doing em on her spare time cause it reminded her of her mom. Of the way things used to be. She acted it out every moment she had a chance to. It took her mind away from her life and gave her a new one.
