Sounds of birds were chirping in the air as Sarah woke up. I must've fell asleep. Didn't think I was that tired. She looked up at her hand, her eyes still focusing. She can feel something in it. As her vision cleared she looked at the white rose that she found the night before and smiled. I must've forgot about putting it away before sleeping. She sat up and stretched while looking around the room.

She stood up and placed the rose by her bed on the night stand and headed to her window. It was a cloudy day but not so bad. Still breezy out and beautiful. All of a sudden her stomach turned. Damn. I forgot to eat dinner last night. Sarah took one more gaze outside and headed downstairs.

"Sarah, you're awake. I hope last night wasn't too terrible for you."  Sarah looked up and saw her dad smiling at her while he layed a plate out for her. The smell of sausages and eggs filled the room as she sat down with a sleepy stare.

"You forgot me again. If you waited just an hour I would've made it in time." She stared at him with slanted eyes. Her hair was a bit poofed up from sleep and she still wore the clothes from the night before. A plain white tee with blue jeans.

"You know we can't just skip our reservations or we wouldn't have made it to dinner." Her dad said sternly.

"I'm glad to see your dinner is more important than spending time with your daughter." Sarah mumbled as she poked her food nibbling on the eggs.

Her father stood straighter and glared at her. "I don't appreciate that tone. You may be eighteen but you're still in my house." Sarah rolled her eyes as she ate.  Glad to see he cares.

At that moment, her step mom walked in with her heels clicking against the floor boards. "Oh, you're finally awake you must've had a good night sleep being you didn't want to join us for dinner."  Sarah looked up at her with a disgusted look. "I wanted to join but you didn't want to wait. It isn't fair."

"You making us late with your late night walks isn't fair. We shouldn't have to wait up for you." Her dad exclaimed sounding more agitated. "If you really wanted to come you would've been ready. You need to take responsibility and be on time instead of having your head in the clouds. You're practically an adult, yet you still act like a child."

"I'm doing the best I can what more do you want? Is nothing I do good enough for you?" Sarah dropped her fork and looked away. This isn't the morning she was expecting. Maybe I should've stayed in bed. Sarah's step mom looked over toward her and sighed. "As much as you need to learn responsibility, I'm letting Toby stay the weekend at his godparent's so you can have some time to yourself. Maybe it will clear your head a bit." Sarah looked up in shock at her step mom. This is the first time she ever showed compassion. Is she trying to show she cares?

"Thank you. That means alot to me." Sarah said softly as she got up and went back upstairs. I wish they understood me more. She walked over to the bathroom and brushed her hair and teeth before getting dress. Maybe I should go for a walk. To make this sour morning a bit sweeter.

By time Sarah made it to the forrest it was a little past midday. The sun was blocked by clouds so it wasn't so bright out. Is it going to rain?

She sat down at her usual spot by the tree and leaned back. The oak tree stood tall and shady. It's been there since she could remember. She always loved being around it, rehearsing lines or just to sit and read. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. The smell of oak and pine filled her nose. I wish it felt nice like this all the time.

She looked up and saw the clouds get closer together, almost blocking the whole sky. Strange weather today. All of a sudden she heard something drop behind her making her jump to her feet. She quickly turned around. "Who's there?" She yelled out while glancing around but saw nothing. Her heart was racing from the sudden noise as she took a deep breath and looked down. Before her was a crystal ball with a rose inside. Wow that's beautiful. Where did that come from? She picked it up and looked around the tree. "Did someone drop this? Did anyone lose anything?" She exclaimed out but all that answered was the breeze dancing through the tree limbs. She looked down at it and her eyes lit up. It was a beautiful rose almost like velvet encased perfectly in the clear crystal. She turned it and saw it sparkle. "It almost looks like there's diamonds in it." She mumbled to herself before looking around one more time. She shrugged and smile. "Another keepsake for me."
