"Hey guys, where'd Carter go?" I ask. They all shrug. "I'll go look for her. She's probably in the girl stores." Lacey says with a grin. Gosh, this girl can't get prettier. "Okay, thanks but-" I was about to tell her Carter didn't like girl stores, but she's already walking out of the store.

I sigh, and continue looking for clothes.

"Carter!" I turn my head around. Lacey comes speed walking with bags in her hands, and her heels clicking on the floor. I stand there waiting for her to say something more. "Where have you been?"

"Uh... here?" I point to the floor where my feet touch. "Duh stupid. Well, we gotta go Hollister, the boys are there." She tugs the jean material of my jacket gently, and brings me over to the store.

"Why have you been quiet all day?" Ethan asks as he drives home. Everyone went their separate ways after a couple more stores, in which I had to follow them. "I dunno." I mumble.

"Carter." He says sternly. "I. Don't. Know." I turn the radio on to avoid this conversation. He sighs, and turns it off. "You can tell me anything Carter."

"Okay... I just don't think Lacey is good for you. That's all." I say. "Really Carter? That's what your upset about?" He half-shouts. "I'm not even that upset, Eth-"

"No, Carter I've been your bestfriend for years and with that, I thought you'd be the first to understand and accept Lacey and I dating-"

"You two are dating?" I gulp. He sighs, "Yeah, I should've told you earlier. I'm sorry. But I just wanted you to like her before I told you. She's a good person, Carter. Trust me." He pulls into his driveway. I get out of the car, without a word and hop into my car. I start the car, and drive about a block away, and pull over onto the side.

This is hard for me, but I don't know why. I guess it's just because Lacey is so rude to me, only because I'm friends with Ethan. I don't want her getting between our friendship. Im just going to have to me a good person to her. Even if she's a bitch.

But maybe she is a good person. I'll just have to get on her good side.

-two weeks later-

"Mhm." I hum through the phone. "Carter are you even listening?" Lexi shouts. Okay, I love her and all, but she's such a... girl. "Yes Lexi. I'm listening. Cause I totally am interested in shopping and just all things girls!" I say sarcastically in a higher voice.

"Carter shut the fuck up. I wasn't even talking about that. I was talking about homecoming. Are you going?"

"Depends who asks me." I chuckle, knowing no one will. Well, last years homecoming for that grade, Ethan took me. But we went as friends of course. But I can't help but think of what would happen if we didn't go as friends, and we went as something more. Would he be with Lacey then?

I know Ethan is going to take her. I mean they're dating. "Hello? You still there?" Lexi asks. "Oh, yeah. Sorry what'd you ask?" She groans. "Gosh dammit. Pay attention Carter. I have lots on my mind. Homecomings next week, and I'm head of the decorating committee, and I have zero ideas of the perfect homecoming decorations! Anyways, I want to take you dress shopping soon. Sound good?"
