Max had impulsively decided to see Mike. She decided she has to talk to him and apologize the way she had been acting.
He opened the door and saw her hopeful face. A flicker of uncertainty flashed across his, but he quickly wiped it away with a small smile.
"Uh, hey Max. Do you want to come in?" He asked. She nodded and stepped inside his home. "What's up?" He asked as soon as he closed the door behind and they started walking to the basement.
"Well, I wanted to talk to you." She said, and they sat on the couch, facing each other. "I was acting really obsessive and weird and quite frankly, extremely rude. I'm really sorry if I hurt you." She said playing with the edge of a pillow and not making eye contact.
"Max, it's okay. I forgive you." He said smiling and touched her hand. She looked up and smiled back, blushing.
"Thank you Mike!" She gushed. He hesitated, and his smile faltered. "I really think you should apologize to Eleven, though. I think she still feels hurt." Max bit her lip and nodded.
"I think you should both apologize to me, actually." A cold voice said from the doorway.
Mike whipped his hand away from Max and she grimaced. "Eleven!" Mike exclaimed. Eleven rolled her eyes. "Mike, save it. Don't tell me it's not what it looks like. Just be honest." She deadpanned.
He sighed. "Eleven, I swear on my life I have no feelings whatsoever for Max. She is just some girl. I love you and you only." Mike said, standing up to hug her.
Max sat on the couch, tears stinging her eyes. "Um, I should go." She said pushing her way through the hugging couple. Mike stopped her. "Max? Are you crying?" He asked.
"No! Why would you care anyways? I'm just some girl." She said before sprinting up the stairs, not even noticing she pushed over Lucas on her way out of the door. "Hey! Wait are you crying?" He asked, and grabbed her hand.
She turned around and said, "Let me go, Lucas." She said it so softly, it was almost a whisper.
The two were standing on the Wheeler's front lawn, when Lucas pulled her into a hug and Max felt herself relax into the embrace. And for the first time in a really really long time, she felt loved.
