Chapter 2: Thanksgiving

*three weeks later after the nature trip, it's Thanksgiving*
Riley: *helps Topanga in the kitchen when Maya comes through the door* peaches!
Maya: *walks into the kitchen* sup weirdos!
Topanga: Maya you look very pretty. Is this for a certain someone? *winks at Maya*
Maya: *blushes* it's Thanksgiving. I want to look nice.
Riley: *laughs* just admit it. You're dressed like this for my uncle.
Maya: I'm not dressed like this for Eric *laughs and starts helping*
Riley: not that uncle! Josh! *smirks*
Maya: *smirks* Uncle Boing is going to be here? *feigns innocence*
Topanga: *laughs at Maya* don't deny that you knew he'd be here.
Cory: *comes into the kitchen* why is Maya dressed up?
Maya: *groans* it's Thanksgiving!
Riley: Josh *keeps peeling potatoes*
Auggie: what about Uncle Josh? *comes into the apartment with Ava*
Cory: *changes the subject* Shawn will be here at 6!
Topanga: *looks at her watch* Cory its 10 am. We have plenty of time.
Riley: *checks her phone and sees a text from Josh* Josh says he will be here with Grandma and Grandpa in a few hours.
Maya: *ears perk up at the sound of his name* sweet *tries to hide her smile*
Riley: *heads Maya's phone buzz on the counter* Maya your phone is buzzing.
Maya: *checks her phone to see a text from Josh* it's Josh.
Riley: *smiles* what did he say?
Maya: *blushes* he said "see you soon ferret"
Topanga: that's sweet. I think it's cute that he has a nickname for you *smiles*
Cory: Maya how is it going with you and Josh and the long game? *smiles*
Maya: *looks at him shocked* how'd you-? He told you?
Cory: *chuckles* yup. He's my brother.
Maya: *laughs* well it's going okay. We text. We're friends. I'm just nervous about seeing him.
Topanga: *rubs her back* it's okay honey. It'll be okay. Just act normally.
Riley: just try to refrain from jumping on his back *laughs*
Maya: *smiles* no promises. Riles, bay window.
Riley: come on peaches *leads her to the infamous bay window*
Topanga: *whispers to Cory* they need to sit next to each other.

*Maya and Riley are sitting in the bay window*
Riley: what's wrong Maya? *looks at her with concern*
Maya: Josh said at the ski lodge that we could hold hands during the holidays. What if he changed his mind? *looks down upset that she sounds unlike herself*
Riley: I don't think he did. He texted me last night asking me if you still wanted to hold his hand *looks at Maya*
Maya: really? *looks up smiling*
Riley: yup and then he said he's shocked that he's worrying over something so trivial. He likes you Maya.
Maya: I know. It's just his parents will be here. What if they don't like our plan for someday? *looks scared*
Riley: my grandparents love you. Don't worry. Even Aunt Morgan loves you even though she hasn't met you. She called and told me "I need to meet this Maya that Josh doesn't shut up about" *rubs her back*
Maya: he talks about me? *blushes* he really does like me.
Riley: *looks at the time* Maya what time did Josh text you?
Maya: 11. Why? *looks at her curiously*
Riley: it's 12:30 and Josh just text me that he's almost here. That idiot must have broken the speed limit! *laughs*
Maya: should I hug him?
Riley: trust me he'll beat you to it *winks*
Maya: *hears a knock on the door* who is it?
Mystery Voice: open the door ferret
Maya: Josh? *speaks softly as she opens the bedroom door* you're not Josh.
Topanga: sorry honey. He called and said he's on his way up. I wanted to get you out of this room so you can see him *leads them to the living room*
Cory: how'd it go? *looks at Topanga*
Topanga: you were right. She thought I was Josh *chuckles*
Maya: *blushes* I can't help it. He is the only one who calls me ferret.
Riley: soon he'll be here *hears a knock on the door* he's here.
Josh: *opens the door* hey kiddies!
Riley: *hugs him* hi Uncle Josh.
Josh: Riley you keep growing! *sees Auggie run to him* Auggie!
Auggie: Uncle Josh! *hugs him tight*
Josh: *lets go of Auggie* my brotha!
Cory: *hugs him* my brotha! Happy Thanksgiving!
Josh: you too. Ma and dad drove separately 'cause they wouldn't let me drive.
Maya: I can't blame them. You must have driven fast to get here in half the time *laughs*
Josh: *turns his head toward the voice* Maya *walks a bit fast and engulfs her in a hug*
Maya: *hugs him back* hey Boing *smiles*
Josh: *pulls back abbot to take a look at her* hey ferret. You look pretty *smirks*
Maya: *blushes* thanks. No beanie? *notices his signature beanie is missing*
Josh: *pulls it out of his pocket and places it on his head as he laughs* you know me too well little ferret.
Cory: *coughs loudly* hey remember us? We're here too.
Maya: *blushes* sorry *goes to sit on the couch and Josh sits next to her*
Josh: *sees everyone's amused faces* what? I don't get to see her a lot *blushes*
Riley: I think it's cute *smiles*
Maya: *blushes and unconsciously hides her face in the crook of Josh's neck*
Josh: *can't help but wrap his arm around her*
Topanga: *takes a picture* that's cute.
Maya: *lifts her head* sorry Josh.
Josh: it's fine Maya *smirks* I sort of like having you in my arms.
Maya: me too *notices everyone is looking* hi everyone *scoots away from Josh*
Cory: this is the long game? *smirks*
Josh: we're still trying to figure this out *rubs the back of his neck*
Maya: I'm sorry Josh *looks down*
Josh: look at me ferret *lifts her head* there will be a day we can do this again. Someday.
Maya: someday *smiles* so when will the others be here?
Riley: well dinner is at 7 so probably around 6.
Topanga: I could some help in the kitchen *smiles*
Maya: *gets up and drags Josh in the kitchen* I'm in!
Josh: *laughs* apparently so am I *looks at Maya's hand in his*
Maya: *notices and lets go* later Boing *smirks*
Josh: *laughs* God I've missed being called that.
