prologue of sorts

I guess when people say things never go according to plan, they were directly speaking to me. Maybe I was stupid enough not to realize that at the time, but now, now it's like life has handed me one big-ass bitch slap right across the face.

This bitch slap in particular left me too shocked to even cry, and ache the size of Texas in my heart.

My arms fell limply to my sides, the TV remote lying uselessly beside me as I tried to comprehend what had just happened. None of it was making sense, none of it seemed believable. My parents couldn't just disappear could they? How could people who I only saw an hour and a half ago not be alive?

A pair of arms wrapped themselves around me, and I moved my head ever-so-slightly to see Anna, my -now very pale-  best friend, hugging me, her eyes still fixed on the TV which I had turned off. I leant into her embrace, enjoying the comforting feel of someone who was nearly family.

I waited to feel the warm tears falling down my face, however, they never came. Not once did i feel a single tear trailing down my cheek as the clock on the wall slowly ticked over to ten o'clock. The stars were shining brightly as they lit up the living room casting shadows in the corners.

I tucked a loose stand of blond hair away from my face, letting out a shallow breath and closing my eyes, letting my body sink into the couch. I managed to find my voice, looking up at Anna and sending her a wobbly smile, which felt like more of a grimace. "It'll...It'll be okay." Try convincing yourself first, aye Faith?

She worridly cast her glance in my direction. "I know it will. Just make sure you're okay." I simply nodded my head and leant on her shoulder, looking at her phone as it lit up, her Mum's contact showing on the screen. She slowly picked it up, gliding her finger across the screen and speaking softly. "Hi mum...Yeah I'm here...Kind of...I can't now, but when we find out what's going on...I will... Love you too."

We continued to sit together in a heavy silence, looking out the window at the peaceful street infront of us. Maybe I was envious of a street. Maybe all I wanted was for my life to be peaceful, however it never really was anyway. My life was hectic. Good hectic though. This was a whole 'nother story, that I wasn't quite sure how to tell.

At the moment, I was just going to try and nurse the bitch slap left on my life.
