After three hours of watching Ally race around my room, flinging makeup, clothes and shoes every direction, she was finally finished getting ready. Me? I managed to do it in about an hour and a half, if you count the last half hour of Ally eyeing me up and down, disbelieving that I had managed to get my shit together in such a short amount of time.

I rested my hands between my legs, my converse tapping against the wooden floor as I watched her dig through her suitcase and my closet for a suitable pair of shoes. I let out a small sigh, as she shoved another pair of flats back into her giant sized suitcase. "Ally, people aren't going to be looking at your shoes, they'll be looking at your face." I pointed out, shrugging when she spun around to glare at me.

“That doesn’t mean I don’t know what kind of shoes I’m wearing.” She huffed, and chucked a pair of shoes at me. I looked at the mess of shoes around us, and grabbed the first thing I saw; a pair of black stilettos. Tapping her on the shoulder, I shoved the shoes in her face.

“You’re wearing these. They look just as good as about half the other shoes you’ve tried on, so slip them on and let’s go.” I told her, smiling when she slipped the shoes on and got up off the ground. We took one last glance in the mirror, and did a mini high-five. We ended up looking pretty decent, if I do say so myself. I was dressed in a white cropped singlet, some denim ripped jeans, and my scruffy white converse. Ally was wearing a dark blue skater dress with the black stilettos I’d shoved in her face five minutes ago.

We headed out the door, and made our way down the stairs. The four boys were sitting in the living room, waiting for us to appear. We walked towards the doorway, and I cleared my throat awkwardly as they hadn’t noticed us standing there yet.  They all looked up, and Ally took it upon herself to start pulling the boys off the couch, claiming that they couldn’t be late to their own event. Lachie’s blue eyes were looking up at me, a small smile on his face. It was different to the cheeky one I had become so accustomed to. I smiled back, and grinned when Ally came over and pulled him up by the arm, grumbling about how guys had no talent for time management.

Carter yelled out a goodbye to Mike and Liz, who yelled back to be home at a reasonable time. Mason opened the door and we followed him outside, towards the old ute, with its chipped paint and worn tires. We all managed to fit inside, and a thought popped into my head. “Hey, you never told us where we were going.” I spoke to no one in particular.

Lachie answered my question. “We’re going to the beach down the road. It’s kind of a bonfire.” I nodded, and looked out the window, laughing when I heard Ally’s complaints.

“But I’m in heels! It would’ve been nice to know that I’d be struggling to walk through sand all night.” She huffed, crossing her arms beside me. Lachie, who sat on the other side of me, rolled his eyes.

“It’s not all on the sand, calm down.” He said, laughing when Ally instantly perked up and sat upright in her seat.  The car lapsed into a comfortable silence, and I was incredibly aware of Lachie sitting next to me. He was wearing black jeans and a loose white-tee, and clad in some black converse, similar to my own. His hair was sticking up messily, and I found my hand twitching in its spot, wanting to reach out and run my hand through it. I blinked a few times, looking away from Lachie, who was now tapping my foot with his own.
