Chapter 2
Once the police showed up they kept asking me questions. One question was on my mind, who called them? I asked Haley once they showed up and she said she never once took her eyes off the man long enough to look for a phone.
I described the man the best way possible and answered the questions I could. Adam showed up a while later to see if everything was alright. I tried my best to stay calm but on the inside I was still a little shaken up. I went to the back to clock out to go home, when I found Adam there on his phone. He was talking fast and quietly. He heard me walking so he dismissed himself off the phone and watched me.
“Are you alright?” He asked me kindly.
“Don’t act all nice, I’m perfectly fine.” I snapped at him. He flashed a smile at me before glaring.
“Do you want a ride, or do you already have one?”
“I’m perfectly capable of walking, it’s only a mile.” I grabbed my coat off the coat hanger and placed my apron neatly on the counter.
“No matter how annoying you are, I’m not going to let you walk home after what just happened!” He shouted a little. He was right; I really didn’t want to walk home either. Since the cops never found the guy he was probably waiting for me down the road or something. I rolled my eyes at him before shaking my head yes and mouthing ok. He led the way to the car and we got in. The ride was silent besides the occasional “turn right” or “turn left”. Once we reached my house I saw my dad’s car in the drive way. I sighed and looked over at Adam.
“Thanks” I said, nicely. He shook his head at me slightly.
“Get out.” He ordered. We glared at each other for awhile before I got out of the car and stomped off. He can act nice for a minute and then we go back to hating each other; same old same old.
I walked into the house and was instantly greeted by my mom.
“Are you alright, what happened?” My mom asked worriedly. I looked in her dark brown eyes and smiled at her.
“I’m fine, just a little tired…” I said honestly. She shook her head.
“Go get some rest honey, your father is upstairs sleeping as well.” I nodded my head and walked up stairs and into my room.
My room was ordinary, white carpet with blue walls and a bed fit for a queen. I changed out of my pants and into some shorts before I hopped into my bed a laid down. I saw my phone light up in the corner of my room; I should take it off silent before I lose it.
I got up off my bed and picked up my phone. I lay back down in my bed and flipped my phone open. It was the same number from earlier. ‘Be safe tomorrow.’ What was that supposed to mean, is that a threat?
I was about to hit reply until I figured I shouldn’t. What if I did and they never stopped texting me? I put my phone on the table beside my bed and turned off my lamp. I got all comfortable underneath the covers and soon found myself in a state of rest.
Do you have a sound you can’t stand? For me it’s the sound of alarm clocks, they put me in a bad mood… that’s why I’m never a morning person. I dragged myself out of my bed and went to take a shower to wash my hair. Once I got out I scrunched it and put on some light makeup.
