Chapter 11
I woke up this morning a few minutes before Adam showed up. My mom was in her room and my dad was no where to be found, he must be at work. Once I got into Adam’s car I felt like I was missing something.
“How was your night?” Adam asked, looking really tired. I shrugged my shoulders and just looked out the window. I didn’t feel like talking right now.
The ride over was silent, Adam didn’t try to start a conversation knowing I would just turn it down. I clocked in and put my apron on and started to get ready for the breakfast rush that consisted of about six people.
I heard the bells ring and in walked Bethany. I instantly felt myself get angry. Why does she have to show up?
“Hey, you look like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed.” She said, walking over to the counter and taking a seat on the bar.
“Excuse me?” I asked, who does she think she is?
“You just look like you didn’t sleep.” I rolled my eyes and scoffed as I walked into the back to grab Adam.
“Adam, your girl is here.” I said as I was taking a seat on the counter that was covered in flour. He groaned and cursed under his breath.
“Will you tell her I died?” He asked me, practically begging. I looked at him confused.
“I don’t like her Emily, I hate her.” I was even in more shock now.
“Then why were you dating her?” I asked.
“I’m not! She thinks we are! I keep telling her but she won’t listen!” He whisper, yelled at me. I rolled my eyes.
“I’m not telling her your dead, I’ll just say you’re on a date and she will get the message.” He shook his head and sighed in relief. I walked back out front and saw her leaning on her arm looking at me.
“If you’re here for Adam he isn’t here…” I said, being the best actress in the world. She looked up at me confused.
“Where is he?”
“He’s on a date with some red head.” I said, taking the money out of the tip jar and putting it into the cash register. Her mouth opened slightly as she sucked in a deep breath.
“He has a girlfriend?”
“Well, I wouldn’t say girlfriend but I can tell they are getting serious.” I said, not looking at her face afraid to lose my cover.
“Well then, I guess I can see where I stand in this relationship.” She said, standing up and storming out of the café. I felt bad for her, but at the same time I felt excited that she was gone and I didn’t have her as a competition anymore. Wait what?
“That was so funny! Do you know how hard it was not to laugh?” He asked, coming out of the back and laughing. We heard the back door slam shut and we both made our way back there. There was a black box with a note on top that said Emily. Adam picked it up and handed it to me.
“You got another present?” He asked, completely clueless. I grabbed it out of his hand and instantly knew it was from Dave. I opened it and found a black ring inside.
“Who’s it from?” He asked, his voice sounded forced almost. I shrugged my shoulders and put it back in the box throwing it away in the garbage can. He didn’t ask anymore questions after that. We heard the bells ring in front and an all too familiar voice.
“Adam. Emily!” Noah and Emma shouted. We went out front to talk with them.
“What’s going on guys?” Adam asked, taking a seat at a table.
“We planned to have our wedding in Hawaii this year, in a couple months. We want you both to come and join us and have you guys be our witnesses.” Emma said, taking Noah’s hand in hers.
“My family will be paying for all airfare and hotels.” Noah said, smiling as he took Emma into his arms. I couldn’t help but laugh at them, they were so cute.
“I’m in!” I shouted running up to Emma and hugging her.
“I guess I can talk my dad into letting his favorite employee have a vacation.” Adam said smirking. I felt Noah nudge my arm before he continued talking.
“You mean, Emily?” Noah said, trying to keep his composure. Adam did a double take and glared at him. We all found ourselves laughing.
“Hello?” I answered my phone while in Adam’s car as he was driving me home.
“Emily sweetie, you’re going to be home alone for awhile tonight, is that alright? Your father and I were planning on going out to dinner.” I smiled to myself, they made up!
