Chapter 19
It was relatively dark outside and the trees were making it even darker. I stepped out of the car and felt my hands get all clammy, I never wanted to come back here; yet here I was again. Adam came around the car and gave me a small smile.
“I used to love the park.” He mumbled, not yelling, but not whispering either. The dark shadows casted by the trees made me feel frightened. I felt the eyes watching me, from either Dave or the police… I wasn’t sure.
“That is, until… well, you know what happened.” He said, laughing. I remembered back to that day, I was tied up to the merry-go-round. I shivered at the thought of that. I has literally scarred for life.
“You want to know something?” I heard Adam ask me, as we walked over to the swings. I took a seat on one as he did the other. I gently pushed myself up in the air, getting chilly as the air rushed by me.
“What?” I said, looking up at the sky that had its incoming stars. I found the big dipper right away.
“You’re stuck up.” He said, looking at me apologetically but sounding serious. My mouth started to open, trying to find something to say.
“Excuse me?” I asked, confused. I put a lot of attitude in that small sentence, almost growing angry.
“Yea, you are. All you care about is yourself…” He said, even more loudly. I felt my eyes water as my mouth hung open in shock.
“What is your problem?” I spat back at him, standing up in front of him once I came to a stop from swinging. He still looked sad, but continued anyways.
“Think about it… you’re always acting like ‘be sorry for me’ and ‘my life sucks’ when in reality your just a spoiled brat.” I screamed at him and hit him in the arm, he didn’t even flinch.
“I do not!” I said, stomping my foot on the ground like a little kid.
“I hate to be the one to tell you, but it’s true.” Why was he being so mean?
“Are you being serious right now?” I asked, still confused.
“Think about it really, poor me my parents are getting a divorce, my life sucks because the coffee place might close down. Be sorry for me, I’m trying to be better than Adam as a manager. Poor me, I have no friends.” He said, mimicking a girl voice.
“Are you being mean because you’re scared to get closer to me? Are you afraid to be in a relationship or something now that you made the move on me and can’t take it back?” I shouted, walking towards the bench on the side of the park. He followed after me, almost looking torn.
“No… I was just messing with you, I just wanted to kiss.” My anger was boiling inside of me, waiting to erupt.
“I’m sorry; I didn’t think you would get this mad about it.” He said, avoiding my eyes.
“Is this a joke or something, because it’s not funny, at all?” I said, throwing my hands in the air and taking a deep breath.
“You played me? I knew you were a player… how you even broke up with Bethany. What a true gentlemen you are.” I said, sarcastically. He sighed and ran his hands through his hair, finally looking up at me.
“-And to think!” I continued, shouting more.
“That I actually fell for you?” I asked myself, incredulously.
“You what?” he asked, looking deep into my eyes.
“Oh, like you would care now! I was actually thinking about dating, but that’s out of the question now!” I screamed, walking over to him and hitting his chest. Not once, or twice, but three times. He just stood there, watching me with what looked like hope. We heard clapping which caused me to stop. I turned around to find Dave making his way through the trees as he smiled at us.
