By the next day the entire school knew what had happened between Cherise and Thomas. Lots of girls came up to her friend to ask if she was okay and if they could do something to help her. It was nice to know that girls would stick together. Zack had also found out what happened, but he kept his distance from Cherise. No nasty comments, no pick-up lines, just nothing. Which was weird, ‘cause Sam would have thought that now her friend was single again he would have been all over Cherise. Thomas however did show up with a black eye halfway during the week, but no one cared or asked about it. As far as she was concerned he got what he deserved. If Cherise hadn’t held her back during second period on Tuesday, saying he wasn’t worth it, she would have smacked him herself.

So the rest of the week went by very quickly and their attention got diverted towards their meet-and-greet with Smoke. It was all Timo had been talking about the entire week and by Friday Cherise was in full freak out mode. Sam tried not to let her friends get to her and it kind of worked, but on the inside her heart was beating a little faster than normal in anticipation.

On Saturday at 8.15 a.m. they were all present in Cherise’s room. They were going to be picked up at 9, so they had about 45 minutes to get Cherise ready, who was in full panic.

“I have nothing to wear!” Cherise screamed. The girl was flapping her hands towards her walk-in closet and it looked like she was on the verge of tears.

Sam was sitting on Cherise’s queen sized bed, flipping through one of the twenty fashion magazines that were spread out on the bed. She looked up and saw Cherise staring at her.

“Anything will do.” Of all three of them she was the last person you should ask style advice from. Cherise knew that, but she kept asking her. Sam’s style was t-shirts and jeans, not really what you could call Vogue-worthy. Fashion just didn’t interest her, she would always choose comfy above wringing herself into something that made it impossible to breath. The same went with shoes. All Stars and high tops all the way, anything above a 2-inch heal would make her fall and embarrass herself. Cherise on the other hand wore pretty much nothing but high heels, even though she was already 5’10”.

“No! Nothing is good! I should have gone shopping yesterday.”

Sam couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Cherise’s wardrobe is about four times bigger than hers. This was one of those girl things she just couldn’t understand what the fuzz was about. Luckily Timo was here to the rescue.

“Let’s just keep it simple.” He grabbed Cherise’s hands, trying to calm her down. Walking into the closet he started grabbing clothes from the racks. “We’ll go jeans, a top, and a jacket.” He was holding a faded ripped jeans, a sunny yellow top with a big bow on the chest and a dark green bolero jacket. That was the reason why you’d ask him for fashion advice and not her. While Cherise was putting on the clothes, Timo was going through the drawers to find the right accessories.

“What shoes should I wear?” Cherise was now completely depending on Timo to make her look hot. He looked up, gave her a once over and went back into the closet.

“I put out some golden bracelets and those golden hoop earrings for you to wear.”

Cherise was looking around frantically, but it seemed she couldn’t find them. Sam sighed and pointed them out on the desk next to the bed. She couldn’t wait for this to be over. Every time it was the same. Whenever they would go out Cherise would suddenly be clueless about what to wear and Timo had to help her. It was as if she would get a blackout. That was one of the reasons why Sam would wear simple clothes; it was a lot less stress.

Timo came back out of the closet with golden strap sandals in his hand and gave them to Cherise.

“You are a lifesaver.” Cherise hugged Timo like her life really depended on it.
