Chapter 13:

Kyle's POV:

I step out of the shower and wrap my towel around my waist. I stare out the window and think back to last night. That's the first time I've spoken openly about my mom in a long time. In fact I think the last time I told that story was the night it happened. Vivid images pass through my mind as I replay those events in my head. Before I can explore those memories further I hear the familiar ring of my phone and answer it knowingly.

"What's up James?"

"I don't even know why I'm asking since I'm pretty sure I already know the answer but was it you?"

" Was what me?"

"Did you beat the crap out of some kid?"

"Little punk had it coming, hell he should be glad he's still breathing."

"Right. Does this also have anything to do with you being seen carrying what looked like an unconscious new girl named Cassia and placing her in your car and then driving away?"

"She was not unconscious."

"So I'll take that as a yes. I don't know what's going on but be careful. Crystal practically mauled me in the hallway trying to find out about what was going on with you and the new girl. I swear I've never seen her that pissed."

"Crystal is not my problem. Yeah we hooked up a couple times, that doesn't mean I wanna marry her. She knew what she was getting in to each time." Suddenly I hear knocking on the door.

"Speak of the devil. James I'm gonna have to call you back."

------------------------------------------

Cassia's POV:

Frozen.

Completely paralyzed.

I try to move my feet in any direction but they seem glued in place. A fire erupting in the pit of my stomach and the world spinning before my eyes.

Suddenly I'm snapped back to reality and my feet unglued from the ground. I immediately turn back around and slam the door so hard I'm surprised it didn't fall off of its hinges. Then I'm running so fast not watching where I'm going that I run right into someone before I'm able to exit the building.

I look up and see the face of Daniel looking down at me with confusion in his eyes and that's when I realize that my face it wet. I was crying but I'm not sure why. Is it the anger at seeing Kyle half naked with Crystal pressed up against him or the sadness I feel for having believed even for just a second that he could actually want me.

"Cassia what's wrong? What are you doing here?"

Instead of responding I simply burst into more tears. Daniel wraps his arms around me and for a moment I tense his closeness frightening for just a second, then I relax.

"Do you want to talk about it?" After debating my options for a moment, I realized that for the first time I really did want to talk. I nod my head.

"Alright my apartment is just upstairs, are you okay with talking there?" Again I nod my head yes.

---------------------------------

"Sorry for the mess, wasn't really expecting anyone today."

"It's fine Danny trust me it's not nearly as messy as my life right now."

"That bad huh?"

"Bad doesn't even begin to cover it." I sigh heavily and slump onto the couch. I take a moment out of my despair and look up and around. I can't believe Daniel lives in the same building as Kyle. The first thing I notice is that even though his apartment is not as large as Kyle's, it's still way bigger than our tiny home.

"Here, this'll help you feel better." Daniel hands me a cup of Chamomile and mint tea and then takes a seat beside me, eyes questioning. After I take a few sips I start to relax, then I tell him everything from the person I once called my mother to the unexplainable feelings I had after seeing Kyle with Crystal.

"Wow. I'm so sorry Cassia. Although I have to say I'm surprised."

"Why?"

"It's just the Kyle I know, the Kyle everyone knows, he wouldn't go to all that trouble for anyone not even if he thought that in the end he'd get her into bed. I mean girls just constantly throw themselves at his feet, thinking they'll be the one to change him. As for Crystal they have hooked up in the past but I'm almost certain he stopped that months ago."

I don't know why but the second Danny mentions that Kyle and Crystal have previously been together just made my blood boil.

"Cassia? Hello?"

"Oh, sorry. Anyways it doesn't matter. This is good now I can go back to focusing on school and making sure I get the scholarship I need for college. Which reminds me, Danny do you think you can help me with something?"

"Yeah, anything."

------------------------------------------
Kyle POV:

I'm pacing back and forth thinking why the hell did she have to come over. Of all days she decides to show up now not to mention I'm not even sure how she found out where I live in the first place.

Just as I was starting to make progress with Cassia. She walks in just as Crystal forces herself on me. I can just imagine what Cassia thought was happening especially since I didn't have shirt on and was wrapped in just a towel.

"Damn it! Why the hell did I answer the door! I should have just ignored it. What the hell am I suppose to do now I don't even know where she is."

I take my phone and dial back James, surely he'll have something in her file about where she might be. As the phone rings I start to realize how crazy this is making me. Why the hell am I doing this? No girl is worth this much trouble. I don't care how she makes my pants among other things feel. No way am I wasting anymore of my precious time following her like some lost puppy. I end the call to James and dial a different number. She answers on the first ring.

"Hello"

"Let's meet at your place, now." I hang up not needing a reply, grab my keys and walk out the door. Yeah getting laid is all I need.
