Chapter 1:

*Flashback*

“You are completely unfit to be a mother! How can you do that to your child your own flesh and blood!”

“HOW DARE YOU! You cant talk to me like that and I can do what ever I feel like it to her because she belongs to ME not YOU!”

“Think again as of today I am now her legal guardian and you cant hurt her anymore she is leaving with me.”

“WHAT! she is not going anywhere with you I don’t know who you think you are.”

“When you refused to show up to court the judge took that as your way of saying you don’t give a damn, not to mention the numerous police reports against you for domestic violence! He granted me with full custody and now she will actually be safe.”

*End of Flashback*

Its been three years since my Aunt Millie saved me from my mother but every now and then I wake up screaming. I remember every punch, slap, and kick. I can still feel the burning sensation as her hand came back over and over again. I can feel the warmth of fresh blood trickling down my face and the salty taste of my fresh tears. Aunt Millie comes running into the living room and tries to hug me in comfort but I flinch at first still thinking someone is going to hurt me when they come near. She holds me close and tells me everything will be alright, that I am safe now. Silently I wonder will I ever truly be safe.

The next morning when I wake up to the feeling that someone is watching me. I open my eyes slightly and a smile appears on my face. Emily is standing by the couch with her teddy bear in her hands waiting for me to wake up. She notices me opening my eyes and utter joy fills her face.

“Caswia!” Emily shouts and jumps on top of me and grins.

“Hello little butterfly, have you been waiting for me all this time”. She nods her head excitedly. I remember the night Emily was born I had only been with my Aunt a few weeks. We where just settling into our new apartment when all of a sudden she started to feel some very mild cramps. We just pushed it off and continued working until her water suddenly broke and that’s when we went crazy. She was a few weeks earlier than her due date so we rushed out to the hospital I didn’t have my license but I really didn’t care we got her bag got in the car and I started speeding towards the hospital. Luckily we didn’t get pulled over and got to the hospital in about 15 minutes. I ran to front desk and explained the situation to them while my aunt waited in a wheelchair. Soon we were up in a room and it wasn’t long before she was told to push. I was going to wait outside but my Aunt stopped me, she said she wanted me there and that if would please stay. I did and not long after a beautiful little girl weighing 6lbs 4oz was brought to this world. After Aunt Millie held she asked me two things. One if I wanted to hold her and two if I would name her. At that moment I felt more loved and cared about than in any other moment my entire life. When I was holding her the name just flew to me and I knew she would be Emily my little Butterfly.

“Yes I was, Me and tweddy want to pway with you.”

“Of course anything for my little Butterfly.”

Aunt Millie’s POV:

I was standing in the hallway watching Cassia and Emily play together they were always so close. Cassia has been through so much and it hurts me to know that she still gets those nightmares every now and then. I try and show her that she’s safe here and I know that she knows that but I think there will always be that little bit of doubt in her mind. She has been doing so well these past few years and I have big surprise for her that I hope will help her feel better about our situation. We are not the richest family around not even close and I know that it has been hard for to think about what will happen once she graduates and if she will be able to go to college. That is why I have enrolled her in the Brillington Preparatory Academy. The most elite school in the country and although it wasn’t easy it will be worth it. I talked to the dean and showed him all of Cassia’s transcripts as well as some letters by teachers who have seen how smart she is and they have decided that Cassia would be a wonderful addition to their school on full scholarship of course. I can not wait to tell her the news, so I am taking what I have saved and taking us all out to a nice dinner to give her the news and to celebrate.

“Cassia, Emily how would you both like to go out for dinner tonight.”

“Dinner? Can we afford that Aunt Millie?”

“Tonight is a very special occasion that I am making an exception for.”

“A Special occasion? How come?”

“It’s a surprise.”
