Chapter 14:
Cassia's POV:
"A little to the left, no wait to far. Now a little to the right. Perfect, right there. Hold still while I put the tape."
"Holding" Daniel says that with the look of an army cadet following their lieutenants order. So much seriousness that I burst out laughing. I can't believe he was able to get me into one of the dorm rooms here at school as well as a job in the library (which is perfect because I love books!). With all the drama going on with Kyle I realized I never even asked Daniel anything about his life. Turns out Danny's Mom is the owner and CEO of Milton Resorts and Spas. So he has some pull around here not that I really care about that. Danny is just such a great person, easy to talk to and not to mention an amazing listener. These past three days have been so crazy but Danny has been here nonstop helping me move into the dorm and figuring out the best places to study and eat.
"Hmm I think you need to move it over just a pinch to the left," I hear a voice say behind me.
"Darn I thought I got it just right, thanks Lilliana."
"Anytime! I thought you guys might be hungry so I brought pizza!"
"Yes I'm starving and I was beginning to think Cassia was gonna let me starve." Danny looks at me with a smirk and I smack him in the stomach.
"Was not! Lilliana you are the best! Four cheese?"
"I know and of course is their anything better!" Lilliana is my new roommate or as we like to call it my dorm buddy. I was really nervous at first meeting her given my not so great luck the first day. After talking to her we realized we must have been separated at birth since we have so much in common.
I feel like I'm finally settling in and I've caught up on all my missed work from when Kyle basically kidnapped me. Well no, he did save me. I've been thinking about that day a lot. I still don't know who it was. I was hoping I'd see someone who looked liked they'd been hurt but so far nothing. I'm terrified to even walk by a janitors closet. A shiver rolls down my spine as I remember their hand covering my mouth and forcing me down on to the ground. If it wasn't for Kyle, who knows what would have happened to me.
Kyle. I haven't seen him since I ran out of his apartment slamming the door behind me. I wonder where he is. He hasn't been in school, I've looked. Not because I want to see him or anything because I don't. I just want to give him back his key. He can go mess around with Crystal all he wants. As I say that I can feel the small tint of jealousy I feel but immediately shrug it off.
"I don't need him and I don't want him"
" Um Cass... Who are you talking too?" I look up to see Danny and Lilliana looking at me confused.
"No one... I just thought out loud I guess..."
"Okay...well we were talking about the Talent show next week and what we are each going to do. I think you should totally enter too."
"I don't think so Lilliana, I'm not really talented."
"Are you joking! You do remember we share a room right? I've heard you sing in the shower. You're amazing!"
"You can sing? I want to hear it!" I look up at them and realize they are waiting. Gathering all my courage, I pick a song in my head and start.
"I don't wanna fight right now
Know you always right,
Now I know I need you 'round with me
But nobody waitin' 'round with me
Been through the ups
Yeah the ups and the downs with me
Got a whole lot of love
But you don't wanna spread it 'round with me, yeah. Never pick up, never call me
You know we're runnin' out of time
Never pick up when you want me
Now I gotta draw a line
Baby I done enough talking
Need to know that you're mine
Baby we done enough talking
Gotta be right now, right now
Baby gon' love me now, now,
now, now, now, now
Now or never"
As I end the song, Now or Never by Hasley there, I open my eyes and notice that Danny is looking at me with wide eyes and Lilliana is grinning cheek to cheek."See! You definitely need to enter now!"
"I'll think about it, okay?"
"Okay"
------------------------------------------
After we finished the pizza and I finished putting up the few things I had brought from home. I changed and headed out the door to Aunt Millie's.
"Mowmy Caswia! Are we gowing to the pawk?"
"We can go wherever you want little butterfly"
"Ice Cweam!" Emily and I head out to this ice cream parlor I saw on my walk over here. Once we arrive I notice that it has a very 50s feel with the black and white checkered floor the red vinyl seats. We approach the counter and I pick up Emily so that she can seen all the flavors and toppings. She picks out a marshmallow flavor in a sugar cone. I decide on cookies and cream with a plain cone.
We sit on the stools to the right of the counter and Emily points out all the colors she has learned as well as the letters. I can't believe how big she is getting. Soon she'll be starting school. As I sit there day dreaming of her first day of school, I hear my name so I turn around slowly, afraid because I already know who it is.
"Cassia?" I look up into those blue eyes I almost trusted. Not sure what to say or even if I want to say anything at all.
"Cassia I can ex—" Before Kyle can finish his sentence a tiny voice says ever so clearly, "Mommy who's that?" I look down at Emily who has stopped eating her cone and is staring up at Kyle curiosity clear on her face. I look back up at Kyle who looks as pale as a ghost confusion written all over him. Before he can say another word and process the scene in front of him I pick up Emily and start to walk out the door.
I turn around just enough to catch a glimpse of Kyle walking towards the back of the parlor and settling in a chair with a group of guys.
"That's no one sweetie just someone I thought I wanted to know."
Without another thought I head out the door and back to the house.
