Tris's POV
I felt a throbbing in my head and an ache in my side every time I inhaled. My whole body was in pain. I heard the sound off water shutting off and footsteps walking towards me. The bed I am on shifted next to my thigh and I knew someone sat down.
When I opened my eyes I wasn't in the infirmary. I was in an unfamiliar room; an apartment.
I looked at the person that sat down next to me and it was Four. "Hey, how are you feeling" he said with a small smile tugging on his face. "I've been better. Not being dead is an advantage" I said returning the smile. "Why were you there?" His face got serious and he looked away. "I was in the control room working. I saw some suspicious activity on one of the screens and when I heard a yell I knew something was wrong. I however didn't know that it would be you I would have to worry about" he said still not looking at me. Why would he worry about me. He could've just left me there or let me die. Why did he help me?
"Why would you worry? You didn't have to help me, you could of not cared" I said looking down at my hands that are fidgeting with the blanket I am under. I spoke so quietly I thought he couldn't hear me but I knew he did.
This whole time there was a side in him that I've never seen before. I'm used to the strict, no emotion, initiate instructor Four. The one that scares and intimidates everyone, but never me. Instead I always knew that there was something more to the "legendary Four" . Something he keeps hidden from the outside world. A caring side almost. The side that shows he has more to him then he leads on.
That's the side I've been seeing in him. But when he looked at me with such a stern, solid face I knew that wasn't the side I am seeing anymore. I'm seeing instructor Four.
"Why do you think I don't care? I know I didn't have to help you Tris, but I chose too." he said with his face still stern. " I see something different in you Tris. Something most people don't have." he said a little more gently but still no expression on his face. "And what is that Four" I said meeting his gaze.
His eyes are a deep blue color. A color that I could get lost in forever. But for the first time I thought I seen something in his eyes; adortion. He places his right hand on the bed, on the other side of my legs and leans towards me a little.
"Fear doesnt shut you down; it wakes you up. I've seen it. It's fascinating. Sometimes I just want to see it again." He says so softly and gently that I don't see the "Instructor Four" anymore, I see the caring Four. "I push you until you break, just to see how hard I have to press. You belong here Tris, you belong with us; so just hold on you can do this."
At this point tears are falling from my eyes. He takes his hand and cups my cheek rubbing his thumb gently over my cheekbone; careful not to press too hard on the already formed bruise, brushing away any fallen tears.
His hand is warm against my cheek as he grazes my cheekbone. His fingers so soft and delicate. For the first time I realized... Four has another side to him but not just any side, he has a story. A story that hopefully he will tell.
