75 years ago a small part of North America split apart from the rest to form it's own country called Panem.
Now the rest of North America (the only country left in the world other than Panem) did not agree with this parting and declared war.
Since then, Panem started training children from the time they turned 12. Then when they turn 18 they are drafted into the war. 20 boys and 20 girls from each city will be randomly drafted to serve in the Panem military. Thats 480 soldiers gained every year. When you turn 50 years old you are then released from your military duties and my return home.
Each December everyone in the military goes home. The training is then stopped until January. That is the break between each training season. After your last year of training, your sixth, ends in November you are put in the Drafting and are randomly selected to serve in the military. The drafting is held on January 1st.
Ever since then Panem and North America have been at an ugly war known as the Rebellion War.
