The sound of something buzzing pulls me out of my dreams. Hitting the snooze button, I snuggle back under my covers.
Soon enough though, the alarm goes off again. Sitting up angrily in bed, I reach for my phone to turn it off. My eyes scan hurriedly over the notification as my thumb slides over to the power nub at the side.
Holy shit! I think, jumping out of bed. It's Sunday! I'm supposed to be getting ready to head to church with The Williams.
Fully awake now, I rush into the bathroom to freshen up before knocking on mum's door. However, she's not feeling too good and won't be joining us. Oh well, I think to myself as I make my way outside just in time to see them heading to their car.
The ride to the church is quiet and uneventful. When we meet up with the twins' friends, I get re-acquainted and they all act so excited to see me, it warms my heart. We're informed it will be a joint service, with everyone staying together since it's the first Sunday of a new month. I feel a bit disappointed but figure it'll still be nice.
Once its time, we get seated with Mrs. Williams at the extreme left column and join in the praise and worship. I'm familiar with some of the songs now and gladly sing along because I love music. Soon enough though, we're allowed to take our seats once again as a few announcements are made and the preacher climbs onto the altar.
"How many people are excited to be in church this morning?" he asks, broad grin in place.
There's a chorus answer in the affirmative and he continues. "Today's sermon is going to be wonderful. As you all know, it's the first day of the month of November and according to our usual tradition, we have a guest speaker in our midst. Ladies and Gentlemen, join me as we welcome to the pulpit, Mrs. Susan Mead."
The crowd erupts into rounds of applause and I find myself clapping along. The excitement and everything else in this church is just so contagious. Damn
"Turn to someone beside you and say, I'm glad to see you today." The petite dark haired lady says as she takes the stage. Smiling at Ruby, I do as we're told.
"It's a privilege to be able to stand before you this morning and speak and I appreciate you for it." She says, smiling. "Now, as I was preparing for today, I felt a burden within my spirit to speak a particular message. That is what I will be talking about today. Hallelujah."
There's a chorus of Amen from the crowd as she continues. I concentrate on her words, eager to know what she'll be speaking about as she says a brief prayer and leafs through her bible.
I like Mrs. Susan Mead, I think as she finally finishes up with her sermon half an hour later. Saying a prayer, she exits the alter to several rounds of applause.
A few more activities like the communion are carried out and then it's time to go.
"Ricky." Mrs. Williams calls, taking me aside. "I spoke to Susan about you and she wants to see you if that's okay."
"You spoke to her about me?" I ask incredulously. "What about?"
"Please just go see her." She replies, but it's more of a semi command so I oblige.
Following her up some stairs, she shows me to an office and leads me in, introducing me to the guest speaker.
"We'll be down in the car waiting." She says, taking her leave without even waiting for my reply.
Mrs. Mead smiles at me. It's a really nice smile that warms my heart.
"Would you like a drink?" she asks, gesturing for me to sit down whilst getting some coke for herself.
