CHAPTER 6:

PHOTOS ARE SOULS!

At the moment, I am trying to keep myself composed. We—I in particular, was just not stunned to see Toph’s photography upperclassman, but I’m also equally stunned at how intimidated I am by the mere presence of her friend.

“Saki, I told you to use the DSLR right? You bought it just for today,” Honoka told her friend, pointing at the bagged camera hanging from her shoulders.

“I still like taking photos with a film camera,” she answered her, waving the film camera she was holding.

I tried not to mind her, paying attention to her more will only cause me stress, and it’s too troublesome for me. They will be out of our sights in no time, after all.

Though, I must admit, Honoka’s look is a bit of a surprise; her long straight hair was braided. Just like her friend, she’s wearing short denim shorts and the official t-shirt of her club; designed with a front part of an old camera and at the back, the back part of the old camera and the words PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB on the top.

“I should’ve worn my club t-shirt too! I’m planning to wear it tomorrow morning though,” Toph gestured that the t-shirt was in his bag.

“Yeah, you should’ve worn it,” she replied without any vigor in her tone or in her eyes.

“You use a film camera?” I asked after noticing the camera she’s holding.

“Mm?” she looked at the camera in her hand, “Saki told me that I should be able to take even better photos with this, in return, I’m teaching her the advantages of a new camera since she’s used to using film. She’s not so modern when it comes to pictures.” answered Honoka, pointed us her film camera and taking a picture of us with it.

Not so modern when it comes to pictures—used to film camera; how odd were the chances that I’d be able to meet such a person.

“Why don’t we trek together?” Toph suddenly suggested, “The more the merrier, right?” he looked over to us and over to Honoka’s for a favorable response. He looked so enthusiastic that I felt like if we disagreed he’ll crumble to the ground and be swept by the wind.

“Fine with me,” Jae answered with a smile, “If I’m fine with it, Naoki’s fine with it as well!” he wrapped his arm around me. I elbowed him lightly and forcefully smiled at Toph who’s really looking happy.

After receiving our approvals, his smile widened even more.

                “I don’t mind,” I heard Saki said.

“Yes! Well then, let’s go?” Toph lead the way like we’re in some kind of camping march.

Honoka walked beside him and they looked like they were happy talking to each other.

“Mind if I go first? You don’t, right? Oh, thanks dude!” Jae continuously stated. Not even bothered to what I have to say. Before I knew it, he was already comfortably walking beside Saki.

And me? I was the lone wolf in the bunch; a black sheep. Not that I feel sad or lonely or anything.

After hours of walking, hiking and taking photos we reached the second cabin stop for lunch. We passed by the first one, rested for like few minutes to get our refill of refreshments and bought some candies.
