CHAPTER 9:

A FAMOUS EDITOR COMES TO SCHOOL LOOKING FOR ‘HER’!

After our trip to the hot spring, we head back to the cabin all fresh and relaxed. The little guy’s talk we had earlier is to be kept to ourselves. It’s pretty much nothing to be ashamed of since Toph’s so open about it and all.

When we arrived, the girls have saved us a seat.

“You sure took your time,” Honoka said to Toph who sat opposite to her.

“Well, we had a little talk,” he smiled sweetly. So sweet that I think I’m having ants crawling up my legs.

“Congrats Honoka,” Jae said upon seating.

“Thanks,” Honoka answered as if the news about Toph and her is not a big issue. Well, it really is not—I think I’m the only one making it into a big one.

I looked over to Saki… more like stealing glances. Jae sat beside her and they seemed to be having fun talking to each other.

Jae must have noticed my frequent glances that he stared at me and when I looked back to him, he gave me a grin; something along the line of ‘I’m heading first’.

I’m not competing with him or anything for Saki, but I somewhat feel irritated at him being too close to her.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes to—ugh, when I look to my right, there’s Toph ogling his girlfriend; to my left, Jae’s giving me the stares. The staff said that the meal will be served in ten minutes, just enough time for me to bring back my stuffs to our room and back. I need to get far from this love heated table.

And so I did; I excused myself from them and even took Jae’s and Toph’s stuffs with me. I don’t have anything to do there anyways. Plus, the more I am with them, the more I remember things I shouldn’t be remembering.

After rearranging my bag, I took my phone, “Two bars.”

There’s a text—it’s my mom, asking me how the trip was going. I’ll call her later when I get back to the main cabin.

After few more minutes of just lying there and breathing – not even thinking of anything – I decided to head back to the dining area.

Okay, to be honest, I was thinking of something. It’s just so hard to lie there and not think.

When I got to the area, the meal was already served. It was a simple breakfast of sunny side up, bacon and hotdogs with some soup and a slice of pie for dessert. They also gave us a Keychain that says “I trekked the King and Queen’s Chess!” maybe I’ll use this with my room’s key. I tend to leave it behind all the time.

“What took you so long? I was about to get you,” Jae asked when I took my seat.

“I was just, uh—” I glanced at Saki for less than a second, “I was thinking of some things,” I said and smiled at him.

Jae nodded, but I know he’s aware of me than ever. This happens from time to time, so I’m not worried that it might ruin our friendship.

“Aren’t you going to eat your pie?” Saki asked me. She must’ve noticed that I’m ignoring my dessert.
