CHAPTER 8:

MR. SUN CHANGED EVERYTHING!

The night went by faster and colder than I expected from a desert like place.

I wasn't able to sleep that much since Jae has been sleepwalking, or rather, sleep crawling to my side. Whenever I wake up, I would find him on my side, I would drag him back to his side of the room, but after a few minutes I would find him again on my back comfortably snuggling himself like some cat.

I should have let him be, if I have, I would've been able to catch some more sleep before Toph woke us up to witness Chess Canyon's famous sunrise.

"Hurry up guys!" Toph pestered us, pulling our blankets.

"Saki!" Jae suddenly jumped from his sleep and looked from left to right, then right to left again. “Where? Where is she?”

"Good morning, Jae the Cat," I greeted him and he looked at me confused. "Let me educate you on what you've been doing all night long – you've been crawling your way to my face every time I drag you back to your bed. Are you a cat in your past lives?"

"Meow..." he teasingly purred at me.

This guy is remarkably annoying and great friend. I don’t even know where I should group him with.

"Tophie, are you guys ready?" I heard Honoka called outside.

"Just wait for us in the hall!" he answered.

Noticing the little things Toph does, and now she’s picking him up? Wouldn’t those the things that lovers only do? But Toph just transferred like some time ago, I think it has only been like—maybe almost a month now.

Foreigners do move fast!

We finished up quickly and went outside. It's so cold that I completely forgot that were in a canyon, not Mt. Fuji or the Everest. I can't stop my jaws from clattering and my knees kept on bumping into each other.

"Hey Toph, it's still dark," I told him. I should've brought with me a thicker jacket if only I'd known that it will be this cold here. Now I think I know how the ants feel when they’re trap in a freezer.

I looked around to see if there are other human beings around, and actually there are quite a number of them here and there. I tried to find out what Jae was doing – if he’s also freezing like me or wha—.

That guy is despicable at times, and embarrassing! Haa, he needs to get a girlfriend fast before he does something stupid. It looks like his lust is making him warm as he stared at Honoka and Saki looking pretty in their fitted fashionable coats, showing their rather nicely shaped curves.

"You're still wearing your glasses?" I moved over to Saki and asked.

"The sun comes up fast so I have to be—prepared," she just simply answered me. By the tone of hers, it looked like she didn’t sleep well.

I wonder if she can still see, I mean its dark out and her glasses are pretty tinted. But then, since she’s not use to sunlight, maybe she can see perfectly well in dark places—heh, like a cat.

“Hi,” we heard Jae greeted someone.

This guy’s pretty fast on picking up girls too!

“Nao, tell Toph I’ll just meet you—” he paused, “Uh, I’ll just meet you when I see you, okay?” he grinned, and when I was about to answer him, he has already guided the girl away from us.

“Jae just never learns,” I shook my head and let out a sigh.

“W-we should be going, Honoka are pretty far from us now,” Saki said. I narrowed my eyes down her pockets where she hid her hands.
