1692:
"Gabrielle please go get the doctor, Betty is having a fit again!" My uncle said. I sighed and nodded, heading outside. Betty had been safe for a while but Abgail slowly regained control of her. As of right now the only thing I could do was play along until i came up with a plan. Abigai avoided me all the time but sometimes I would catch her glaring at me when we sat down for dinner.
I made my way across the night filled streets, heading towards the doctor. I ran into his office, breathlessly.
"Doctor, Betty is having another fit!" I yelled. the doctor sighed and ran out the door, already knowing the drill by now. i walked after him but instead of following back into the house I head out towards the lake. When I made it, i saw the same flowers blooming I had given my mother so long ago. Tears pricked my eyes and slowly made their way down my face.
I didn't sob or make any sound. They just silently fell whenever I thought about her too often. I let them fall, knowing there was no way to keep them at bay.
"A lovely young lady shouldn't be sitting by herself and crying." A voice said behind me. I jumped, not even hearing someone approaching in my wallowing. I turned to look over at him. He was tall but not too tall and more lean then muscular. he had short, wavy sandy hair and the most beautiful blue eyes I had ever seen. And his accent was wonderful. Soft on the ears. Almost like a melody.
He kneeled down next to me, eyes soft.
"Are you alright?" he asked me and I found myself enjoying the sound of his voice. I nodded robotically.
"I am fine." I said, wiping at the tears quickly. He sat down next to me and looked over at the lake, not saying anything.
"Why were you crying?" He asked. I shook my head.
"It is nothing." I said, giving him a small smile.
"Lying isn't very polite, love." He said. I suppressed an eye roll, my cheeks heating up.
"It's my birthday." I said quietly.
"And that's why you're crying?" He asked in amusment. I shook my head hesitantly.
"I..it's also the day my mother died." i said reluctantly my voice cracking. He kept quiet, nodding in understanding. He didn't say any words of comfort, for which I was thankful for. People had always tried to comfort me, tell me it wasn't my fault or tell me everything would be okay. But I hated it. I didn't want there comfort, especially because none of them understood. He didn't speak, which lead me to believe he could relate.
"Are you new to town?" i asked, suddenly realizing I had never seen him around before. I almost slapped myself for thinking that I wouldn't remember him if he'd been in town. He layed back against the grass, arms behind his head.
"I'm just passing through. I was about to leave town when I saw you." He said and gave me a sly smile.
"It's the middle of the night." I said with a frown.
"And?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. I stood up and offered him my hand. He took it, standing as well.
"you can't travel at night, it's dangerous. My uncle is the reverend of the church and also owns a Tavern. You can stay there for tonight." I said. He looked ready to object but I gave him a sharp look and he shut his mouth. He let me lead him into town and towards the Tavern. I stepped inside and saw Betty and Abigail both having their fits.
