Chapter 2

I ran inside my house and closed the door behind me, yelling was instantly heard coming my way and I ducked just in time for a bottle of cheap rum to come flying my way, it hit the door behind me and shattered on impact, spilling the liquid all over the floor. I ran upstairs as fast as I could and into my room locking the door with my drunken mother stumbling behind me knocking down everything in her path.

In less than 15 minutes all my clothes and very limited dear possessions were packed away in my book bag; I didn’t dare go into the bathroom across the hall to get my toothbrush and towel. While I worked I could hear my mother knocking, no, punching the door, calling me very name in the book, but it was nothing I hadn’t heard from her so I didn’t listen, instead I walked over to the window and opened it, throwing the bookbag out of it, which landed in our front lawn with grass that reached our knees , it hadn’t been mowed since dad left.

Before jumping of the window myself, I decided it would be unfair even for my mother to leave without a simple explanation. I walked over to my desk, pulled out a paper and wrote her a simple note.

Mother:

I finally found somewhere else to go, have a decent life

-Megen

I contemplated opening the door so she would find the note and then run out the window as fast as I could, took a minute to prepare and then did it. The moment her drunken self stepped into the room I ran to the window and jumped out before she could figure out what was happening. I slipped when I landed and fell but got up just as quickly, picked up my bag and ran back to the park.

Some would argue that what I was doing was beyond heartless, leaving my poor mother by herself with her condition. But they didn’t know her. For years dad and I tried to get mom help, but she refused time and after time. Rehab, therapy, everything.  Five months after Scott landed in jail, dad eventually gave up and left me alone to care for her. At only 16, I had to get a job at the crappy run down diner 20 blocks down the street and became the sole provider for our family while struggling to maintain a minimum C average in school. Most of our money went into paying rent and electricity, while the rest supported her addiction. Food wasn’t a priority in our household; I lived off Ramen noodles and the occasional frozen pizza while she lived off Vodka, cheap beer and the snacks random strangers at the bar would buy her. We didn’t have a car, or a phone or a computer, they weren’t considered important. Every morning I walked 10 blocks to the nearest bus stop to get to school and at 2:20 pm I rushed out to once again catch the bus to start my 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm shift at “Philip’s Diner” where you may or may not get food poisoning from the soup of the day. Friends weren’t a priority for me. My grades weren’t good enough for a scholarship so I didn’t even think about college and the debt it would once I graduated, instead I started working full time at the diner 6 days a week, with Sundays off.

But that life was now behind me, as I reached the park I saw him sitting on the same swing he was when I left, it looked like he never moved. He saw me coming and stood up walking my way, without saying anything he took the bag from me and carried it over one shoulder. He started walking through the parking lot and I followed after. We made our way in front of a gorgeous black Ranger Rover and as I stared in disbelief he opened the trunk and put my bag inside. Ezra unlocked the car and slipped into the driver’s seat while I stood outside with my mouth hanging open, he lowered the passenger seat window and looked at me with a teasing smirk. “Are you going to stand there all night or are you coming in?” I snapped out of it and got in, he started the engine and we drove away from the crappy neighborhood as I wondered what on earth he was doing here if he could afford a ranger rover?

** Kinda short chapter and a little shitty, since the first chapter was pretty much the same as wehn it was a fanfic I thought it would be better to upload two in a day. So far I only have a couple of chapter written so I'll be uploading on fridays if I remember to??

Please tell me what you think and give me ideas for future events, tell me what you like, what you don't like. I appreciate it a lot! Thanks for reading **
