Damnation is Just Another Word for Guilt

There are different types of lies. Lucius knew, told, and experienced them all. White lies were his favorite, mainly because they were the small pointless ones that affected no one but himself. He could lie to himself and say that he wasn't going to regret this choice in the future, but another false statement would be to say that he could continue on without the intrusive thoughts of guilt that later on his mind. Everyone (Tyler and Josh) said that he would forget after a while, the memories of Trey, Macy, and Zaden would fade away like words on a page. Lucius wanted to agree with them, but for most part the only piece of truth that was told to him was the university's grievance counselor. It was going to get worse before it got better, and right now the hangover was clear evidence of those words.

He knew the alchcol didn't help, neither did it sooth his worries and calm his anxiety, but the feeling of losing control of himself and spilling all of his feelings like a giddy teenaged girl at a sleepover made him feel...more human he supposed. He gave away his right to be human though, and willingly too. Lucius never regretted his choice to be come a Grim Reaper, but there were times when he doubted his sanity when he agreed. He was one of the lucky few that got the choice back before the Apprentice Rules were enforced. Enforced being a relative term. There were many issues with the Apprentice Rules, some of which were amended later on and a few nullified because of contradictory statements. Before the War there were plenty of Grim Reapers, afterwards...well you can understand there was a worry that souls were not going to be reaped because of their lack of numbers. So all Four Courts agreed to let the Grim Reapers take any being they saw fit to be their Apprentice.

Needless to say Lucius could not bring himself to force anyone into his line of work or get close enough to someone and have them say yes and then watch them fall apart. He came close to asking Trey, very close, but something stopped him midway. Now he wasn't sure which outcome would have been worse: having to see Trey willingly become the monster he was or have to see the betrayal in his eyes when he woke up in a place like the Immortal Plain.

He needed to prepare himself for the worst outcome. There was a large possibility that Trey was never going to forgive him, but that doesn't really matter because Lucius will never forgive himself. This will be the decision that he will regret the most, a descision far worse than choosing to enter a war that had nothing to do with him. Was this going to be the mistake of the century? Most likely. But what was that saying the humans always said 'go big or go home'? Well he was going to place he occasionally called home and any number larger than one for an Apprenticeship was nearly unthought of.

So much so, even Cory began to think Lucius was making a less than intelligent choice. "You are an imbecile." He commented as he casually sipped the clear glass of water, or at least Lucius hoped it was water, Cory was a bit of a lightweight, as were most Fae. They had excellent recovery times though, unlike Lucius who was still struggling to get out of bed at one forty five in the afternoon. He still had a pale face with perspiration lining his hair. His stomach was doing gymnastic tricks and his throat was burned by the acidic bile that kept retreating to his mouth and into the toilet. Lucius couldn't remember if he ate anything or drank any water to hopefully prevent this from happening. Obviously his drunken self wasn't smart enough to plan forward in advance, and Cory was keen on pointing that fact out. "First you come to me to drown your sorrows in enchanted liquor and then you stink up my apartment with your vomit? What a lovely house guest you are."

Lucius gave a him a soft chuckle before the bile was able to crawl up his throat. If he could spit out a retort he would, but there was nothing to defend. Of course drinking his worries away wasn't the his actual goal, but it ended up being the task he completed. He was lucky he didn't end up in some ditch with a broken limb or two, he should be thanking Cory for dragging his drunk ass back to wherever they were instead of leaving him behind like he expected him to. Instead of a thankful remark Lucius replied with, "What, that isn't what you wanted in a roommate? I thought we were just becoming friends."
