Days turn into weeks and weeks turn into months the little barn that we stay in gets grosser every day. We break out occasionally to make sure we don't starve and when we get thirsty we go into the woods to the small stream that runs there. Tina and Ryder had ridden us once into town so they could get lunch. Tina and Ryder groom us and clean the stalls in their little free time. We make small talk and sleep we are all very skinny and dirty. It's early in the morning and everyone is awake we usually can't sleep at night because it's what we do during the day. Asia looks out of her stall "hey guys I was thinking last night and I have an idea but it's not gonna work." I poke my head out of the stall door "what is it Asia we have nothing better to talk about." She sighs "Well I was thinking why are we even staying here we already feed on grass and can get out of the stalls so why not run away but it's not a very good idea we don't have to do it." Coffee lights up " That's brilliant why haven't I thought of that before." Are we seriously thinking of running away but I guess it wouldn't be much different than where we are now I already feel lost so maybe it would be fun "I think we should do it." I tell them my voice is anxious. We all think about it and come up with some plans. "OK are you guys ready." I ask them "Ready as I will ever be." Coffee responds sarcastically. We unlock our stalls and go past the field and into the woods. We get a quick drink from the stream. Then venture off into the woods we occasionally stop for grass and weeds. The sun is just starting to rise it's summer now. Probably the first week of summer but I have no way to tell what day it is. We are still wandering the woods all day grazing when we can. Asia and Coffee don't look to be in great shape I'm sure I don't look to good either. We come across a clearing an amazing bright green field that goes on as far as we can see. There are distant whinnies and hoof beats. A large herd of maybe thirty horses comes over the hill. They are beautiful galloping through the grass and playing with each other. Asia starts trotting across the field towards the herd. Coffee and I trot after her. When we get near them the leader approaches us a grey and white mare greets us. "Hi I am Smokey and this is my family." She looks back at the horses scattered around grazing. "What brings you here." She asks looking confused "We are from Blueberry farms actually we are running away from Blueberry farms." She peers at the three of us astonished "You may stay with us for a while, you know I was once at Blueberry farms myself a few years ago they used me to plow the fields so they could plant the blueberries but when I was done they just turned me loose." I can't believe Tina and Ryder would just let a horse go." the others agree Coffee turns toward Asia and I "What do you think guys should we stay with the herd a while." Asia answers before me I can even open my mouth "I would love too we haven't seen so many horses in like 6 months." That was exactly what I was going to say all I want is to frolic in the field and roll in the soft grass actually have conversations with new horses. "Lets go." I whinny to them and I take off galloping into the open field. playing with some foals and talking with some of the others from the herd of wild horses. I have never been around wild horses before but they are very fun ,graceful and they have lots of interesting stories. I stop by this one horse named Josh and I immediately became friends with her she was so interesting and mysterious we hung out for awhile with Asia and just kinda wandered around. She told me about her and I told her about me and Elizabeth and all about Canter Wood. Everyone in the herd starts to pop their heads up and their ears swiveling trying to find what is making that sound. Smokey is the first to find what it is. "CAR." she neighs to the herd in a loud booming voice. Everyone looks to the road way across the field and through the trees I spot Ryder's truck. We gallop over the hill and into the trees just as the car comes into sight. The truck stops and parks and Tina gets out and scans the valley for us. When she doesn't see anything she gets back in the truck and Ryder drives them away. The herd stays in the trees until the sun sets just in case the truck comes back. We slowly make our way out of the trees taking our last bites of grass before we drift asleep. I wonder if Tina had caught a glimpse of us and are coming back tomorrow but I am too tired to stay awake any longer.

____________

The morning arrives and everyone else is awake but Coffee and a few others like Josh. Josh is one of the greatest friends I have had but I know there is another side of her that she feels she needs to pull a mask over, but I still love her. The morning is foggy and warm. I calmly join the heard a feeling of tranquility falls over me. This feeling of calm makes me never want to leave never want to grow up and go back to the real world where there is work and everything is at stake. I hear the sound from yesterday it gets nearer and nearer and I snap out of my daze but its too late. They have already spotted me and Asia and Coffee. "OH NO" I bump Coffee and take off in a full on gallop Coffee is startled but comes with me Asia sees Tina and Ryder and follows us down the field. We don't run into the trees this time because one the herd is hiding there and we can't put them in danger plus we need to cover ground where there is no road. We are running in the opposite direction of Blueberry farms and Tina and Ryder. When I look back they are grabbing halters and leads and hopping back in the truck. They are even with us but still very far away for we are all the way across the grassland. We all take a turn away from the road in hopes to get rid of the couple. The cantering seems to never end we run until the truck is out of sight and soon we cant even continue. The three of us are in no shape for this. I have got new cuts on my sides that sting from running past trees and spiky bushes. We walk until we come across an old run down barn.
