I couldn't get up to stop them. I couldn't do anything. So I just yelled.

"ASHTON! JASON! STOP IT PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!"

Neither of them stopped even for a second. By the time a couple of nurses arrived to stop the fight, I was already crying because it was all my fault. However, I was to consumed in self-loathing to notice the fighting cease.

"IM GOING TO KILL YOU MOTHERFUCKER!"

"I'd like to see you try,"

My sobbing was lessening as Jason was pulled out of the building by two police officers. When did the cops show up?

"Nikki, I'm sorry, but I couldn't just sit around when he was hurting you,"

He continued to ramble an apology. I only heard some snippets, though, because I wasn't listening because I was to overwhelmed with the voice in my head saying that this could've all been avoided if I hadn't called a stupid wrong number.

Ashton P.O.V.

She wasn't listening to me. I could tell by the way her eyes looked. I may have only met her today, but the lifelessness in her eyes would be noticeable by anyone.

"Nik,"

Her hollow gaze met mine.

"It wasn't your fault,"

She scoffed, causing anger to flash behind the emptiness.

"I made my decision to punch him. I—"

"You punched him first?"

I nodded.

"I thought for sure it was Jason that had...what about the police?"

She asked right as an officer approached me. She saw the officer.

"You Ashton Irwin?"

She said it curtly as if she was having a rough day.

"Um, yes that'd be me,"

I felt Nikki's eyes burning into the back of my head.

"Ma'am?"

I spun around to look at Nikki.

"Yes?"

"He was protecting me,"

"Oi, really? And how was he doing that?"

"My boyfriend—ex boyfriend—was abusive and that's why I'm here in the hospital bed and so I broke up with him while Ashton happened to be outside my room and my ex threatened my life sorta yeah,"

The cop seemed actually intrigued by the confession and began scribbling down some notes as Nikki spoke.

"Ok, thank you, but I'm still going to take him down to the station,"

Nikki frowned, but something filled her big brown eyes. Relief.
