I quickly reacted. Right before the teeth sunk into Lia, I stabbed the creature that resembled a bear mixed with a middle aged woman in the dark brown eye.

It shouted with rage and scratch Karli as she tried to approach it. Out of anger, Karli whipped a knife from where she stood right in its chest. It shook and fell to the ground. Dead.

10 days later

"Felix! Tuck roll!" I heard Lia shout from in behind me.

I quickly obliged as a scaly arm swung over my head. I popped up and swung my sword and cut off the arm. It belonged to a large man that was probably in his forties when he was bitten. A knife flew past my line of vision and lodged itself in a young girl flying towards us with wings.

I glanced at Karli as she was in combat with an elephant the size of a truck mixed with an old man. I could see his gray hair popping up all over its back.

The lizard man I was fighting was bleeding green and I stabbed the mutation in the neck. That's the only way to fully kill them.

My dagger lay on the ground a couple feet from Lia who was punching a Great Dane with blood flowing out of its mouth.

I slashed my sword and back flipped up onto the garbage can behind me. We were fighting rats and stray animals in an alley just off the city of Chicago.

Lia was on the roof shooting down on the monsters. I reached down and scooped up my dagger. Another animal was charging at me, so I jumped into the air and landed on its back. It shook all around trying to buck me off. It's a horse. I lift my sword into the air and plunge it into the mutation. I could see kind eyes of a baby in it.

It fell to the ground and I hopped off. My brown hair has gotten longer over the past week and five days. All around me were piles of dead mutations. Karli walks around all her victims and take her knives out and place them in her jacket.

I bang my sword on the ground twice to signal Lia she can come down. Within seconds, Lia hops off the roof and plummets to the ground, but as planned, she grabbed a gutter and slid down.

"Come on. We've made too much noise." I said while glancing up and down the alley.

I sheathed my sword and held my dagger as we walked out of the alley. Lia loaded her crossbow and Karli had a knife in her hand. We slowly crossed the street. Vigil and awake, we were sure to not run into any mutts.

I stepped onto the sidewalk and opened a gate leading into a small house's garden.

That's when the gunshots went off.
