Chapter 10

CHAPTER 10:

We rolled off the porch and onto the ground. When the girl had lunged at me she had knocked my breath out of me. She punched me before I even hit the ground. Hell no. I was not about to get beat up by Zander's ex. I silently thanked my cousin for teaching me self-defense.

I slid out from under the girl, knocking her on her ass, but she was up again less than a second later. Crap. I'd only enraged the bull further. She swiped at me but I caught her hand and flipped her. She landed hard on the ground and braced my knee on her chest. She swung again, but I caught her hand, again, pulled her up, and moved her arm behind her back. Not enough to break it but enough to cause a little pain.

I looked up and found Zander only a few steps away. I hadn't even see him run down the porch steps. "Damn Ava. You can fight." he said, trying to lighten my mood. "Sorry not really in the mood to joke AFTER YOUR EX TACKLED ME." I yelled. "I know. I'm sorry. Lilli and I were heading out the door when Hannah pulled up and started yelling at me."

"I saw the Instagram post bitch." Hannah said, trying to twist away. Oh. Kya had posted a photo of me and Zander laughing on her Instagram yesterday. I let Hannah go and she looked at us angrily before she stalked to her car. Before climbing in she turned and said "We're over." to which Zander replied "We never started."

She drove away.

Zander turned to me. "Want some ice?" he asked, concern in his voice. It softened me. After he mentioned it I realized my cheek was burning. "Yea." I said and I followed him inside.

When we got inside I saw Lilli, she was in the kitchen trying to do something with her phone. She looked up and saw me. "Ava? What are you doing here?" Then she saw my face. "Ohmigosh." she said and then turned to Zander who was getting ice from the freezer. "DID YOU SERIOUSLY LET HANNAH ATTACK AVA?" she screamed, her face getting redder by the second. "I didn't let her, no. Hannah lunged at her and before I could even get them apart Ava had kicked her ass." he said with a frown. He turned to me. "I swear, I didn't know she was gonna show up here." he pleaded. "Tell me about it." Lilli said with a snort. "We're just heading out when she comes running up and started yelling. And to top it off I couldn't even get a text to you explaining because my phone started spazzing. I just got it to stop restarting 2 minutes ago."

"Oh." I said with a small voice. Zander handed me the ice and then hugged me from behind. I leaned back into his warmth before he let go. "So your not mad?" he asked. "No. I really can't be, if this Hannah girl just showed up randomly." I said. "The only thing I'm mad about is that the pizza I ordered, an hour ago, is cold." I continued. Zander just chuckled.
