"You're so full of crap," Y/N chuckled as she laid against her boyfriend's chest, his fingers tangled into her hair as she spoke.
"No, I'm serious. Damn thing went right by me." Derek grinned, messing gently with his girlfriend's fingers.
"Sure, baby. Keep telling yourself that." She murmured, bringing his hand up to her lips and kissing his hand.
Derek chuckled gently, low and raspy as he reached down to press a gentle kiss to the top of her head.
Y/N bit her lip as she gripped his hand, turning over so her ear was placed right over his heart. "Derek?" She murmured quietly, and if Derek hadn't been a werewolf he probably wouldn't have heard it.
"Yeah, baby?" Derek murmured, rubbing gentle circles into her back with his fingertips.
"Can I tell you something?" Y/N asked, gently playing with the fabric of his shirt.
"Anything." He whispered into her hair, kissing the top of her head once more.
Y/N sighed softly, closing her eyes slowly. "I-I love you."
Derek's heart fell out of his chest and his breathing shortened, though his grip on Y/N didn't loosen. It had been a while since he'd last heard that, and the last person he'd heard that from -his mother- was dead.
Y/N sighed softly. "Derek, I'm not telling you that to hear it back, okay?" She murmured, looking up into his green eyes. "I get how hard it is for you to tell people that. I'm just telling you so you'll know."
Derek stared at his girlfriend for a minute before pulling her in for a kiss, his hand gently coming up to cup her cheek in the gentlest way possible. Y/N kissed him slowly, her hands coming up to tangle in his hair. After a moment they gently pulled away, and Derek rested his forehead on hers.
