They both knew it was dangerous. Him especially. He knew her alpha would find out what she's been up to. He always finds out. She'd be killed. But he didn't care. He wanted her. He needed her. Even if it meant losing her later.
Just gonna stand there and here me cry, but that's alright because I love the way you lie
She knew she was gonna be killed. She knew it as much as he did. It was the thing that haunted her nightmares. The thing that kept her awake at night, crying into his embrace.
Hearing her cry was basically the equivalent of having his heart torn from his chest. And the worst part is he had to lie to her in order to calm her down.
"Shh, it's okay," he'd whisper. "You're gonna be okay." But he knew she wasn't. Her alpha was too strong for him. He was just a beta now, how was he suppose to go against the alpha of all alphas? The answer was simple. He couldn't.
He had told her he'd protect her. That he would make sure nothing would happened to her. And now here she sat, dying in his arms.
"I'm sorry," he whispered through a deep, rumbling sob. "I'm so sorry."
"It's okay," She wheezed out, gripping his warm hand. "I love the way you lie."
