I am at the wheelchair, looking up at the exquisiteness of the cherry blossoms.
"Look at the camera!"Mei exclaims.
Mei is with me that moment. I smile, a genuine, sincere smile.
She's been here almost a month. She already graduated with flying colors, and it just surprised me when she arrived here. She was hired online by a well known company. She said she will be working here, for good. Good thing she has to witness the cherry blossoms here.
It's my first time also.The last time I went here it wasn't winter.
It's been 6 months since I left the Philippines. I wanna go home to my own land.
"Finally we're going to achieve one dream."I chuckle.
"Yeah. To witness the cherry blossoms, to experience the winter days here in Japan."She softly answers.
"Thank you for coming here Mei."
I thought I'm just going to spend the rest of my days with Nami, Nicks, and with my family..well she's been a family too. She's been with us in every occasion and important events in our lives.
"Get well soon O-ne. I miss watching movies with you in the cinema."
"It's pretty expensive here."
"Don't worry, this time.My treat.I have work waiting for me remember?"She proudly says.
"I'm really so proud of you Mei. "
"I am too O-ne. You're a brave woman."
"How I wish I could spend more days, months, and years with you."I softly utter.
"Yes you are, and you will be O-ne."
"Give Cris the chance.."
"O-ne.."
"I know he will be a better Christian too. Remember we have this standard that we have to marry a Christian man.?"
"Yeah,.."
"We used to dream to maintain our rank, graduate with flying colors, have a stable job, marry a Christian man.."
"O-ne.."her voice started to stammer.
"and now, you have achieved some of those. Sooner or later you're going to reach the rest..without me."
"Will you please stop that."she motiona me to stop.
"I knew it Mei.Let's not pretend anymore. And I'm ready for it."
"I can't.."She started to wipe her tears.
WHY DOES IT FEEL LIKE IT HURTS MORE TO SAY GOODBYE to her than the physical pain I feel inside.It wrenches my heart.
"You have to Mei. You're tough. What Mei wants, want Mei gets."
I try to imitate her. We laugh.
SILENCE.
I'm still on the wheelchair,and she is standing beside me.
She moves and hugs me tenderly from my back.
"You know I'm not used to it .But this time I just want to let you know how much I treasure you O-ne. Thank you for being an amazing one of a kind big sister to me."
I slowly hold her arms wrapped around my neck.
Then she faces me, with those big pearl shaped tears on her cheeks.
She initiates our sisterhood symbol, our pinky swear.
"I love you always O-ne.."I think it's her first time to say all those words. It touches me.
