Merlin was at war with himself. He looked back at the great dragon and sighed.
"Isn't there anything that we can do to save Arthur?" Merlin was running out of options and wasn't ready to face the fact that he was going to die with Arthur and that Albion would never rise. He wasn't ready yet. The great dragon thought momentarily and knew he had to give the powerful spell to Merlin because he wasn't ready for the dream of Albion to perish. He looked at Merlin and saw the determination on his face. It was enough for the great dragon, and he knew Merlin was quite capable.
"Young warlock, there is a spell that may destroy the Ekimmu, but I am not sure. It is a spell from the old religion and is very powerful. It will take a lot of power from you, Merlin." Merlin could have danced a happy dance. All was not lost, and he or Arthur may not die. He finally could have hope. He smiled as he looked at the great dragon.
"Do you think that I can do this?" The great dragon looked fondly at Merlin.
"You are more than ready, young warlock. You are the great Emrys and will bring about Albion and magic." Merlin nodded and hoped that the dragon was right. He was nervous that such a destiny could rest on his shoulders. He was hoping that he was powerful enough.
"Where can I find this spell?" Merlin asked, hoping he would be able to find the spell in time. The great dragon laughed. There was so much that Merlin had to learn, and the great dragon was willing to help him gain the knowledge that he needed. Merlin looked up at the dragon, confused. He couldn't understand why he was laughing; he hoped it was for a good reason. The great dragon stopped laughing and looked down at Merlin, who was still smiling.
"The spell is centuries old and can not be found in books as Uther destroyed them all." Merlin's hope was crushed; there was no way that he could save Arthur now. They were all doomed.
"So all hope is lost?" Merlin asked quietly. He looked down as he couldn't bring himself to look at the great dragon. He felt as if he had failed him and Albion.
"No young warlock. Don't lose faith yet, for I have the spell in memory. I will give it to you as you are the destiny of Albion." Merlin looked up surprised and felt the happiness return. The spell wasn't lost yet. He could save Arthur and Camelot. He smiled at the great dragon, knowing that he could do this. The dragon leaned forward, and Merlin stood on guard, unsure what would happen. The dragon leaned forward more and then closed his eyes. He then let the spell come to him and breathed it onto Merlin, giving the spell to him. Merlin let the warm breath overcome him, and he felt his mind accepting the spell and the spell becoming a part of him. When he opened his eyes, he found that the dragon had leaned back and was looking at Merlin intently.
"Do you know what you have to do, young warlock?" Merlin nodded.
"Thank you." He whispered.
"I want Albion to happen as much as you do, so I will do anything to make it happen." The great dragon knew that Albion was safe in Merlin's hands. He bowed his head to Merlin and then took off into the sky, knowing that there was far worse yet to come. Merlin watched the great dragon go in awe and wondered if he would ever get used to him doing that. Merlin smiled to himself, happy that there was something he could do. He set off back for Camelot, hoping he wouldn't run into the Ekimmu. He returned to Camelot safe and sound and quietly walked back to his chambers, thinking about the battle ahead. He wondered how he was going to use his magic without being seen. It was always an issue, and he hoped he wouldn't get caught. He knew that being caught with the use of magic was death. He didn't fancy the idea of death.

Merlin rode beside Arthur in silence. He could sense that Arthur was nervous and on guard. He could also tell that Arthur was worried about his knights. He wouldn't want anything to happen to them.
"Are you scared?" Merlin asked quietly so that none of the other knights could hear but the young prince. Arthur looked at Merlin and pursed his lips.
"Probably more than you when your knees are knocking, Merlin." Merlin sighed and ignored the jibe.
"Don't worry, Arthur. You have nothing to worry about." Arthur pulled to a stop and looked at Merlin.
"Are you crazy? There is a blood-sucking beast out there that cannot be killed, and you're telling me not to worry? Merlin, I think you are spending too much time in the tavern." Arthur couldn't believe what Merlin was saying. He was scared but hid it well from his knights as it didn't show a good leader. He thought that Merlin was an idiot and needed his head looking at. Merlin rolled his eyes and ignored Arthur's jibe. Arthur always took it out on him when he was frustrated or scared. It came in the job description. They rode through the forest until they came to the same clearing when the monster attacked them. Merlin felt a sense of unease and that someone was watching them. He glanced around and saw nothing. The sense of unease grew as he watched Arthur climb down from his horse. He knew that the beast was close and that it was going to attack anytime now. It was just waiting for the right time to strike. Merlin got down off his horse and came up close to Arthur. He had to be close for when the beast attacked. He would have to say the spell without being caught and without anyone being killed. They scouted the area and found nothing. To Merlin, that meant nothing. The knights regrouped, and they all felt the beast was nearby. They were waiting for it to strike. They would be ready, and they would protect Arthur at all costs. Suddenly, there was a snap of a twig, and everyone glanced in the direction of the sound. There was nothing. Silence. Then, the beast sprang from the trees and charged towards them. Merlin jumped and then became very scared. The beast was full of magic and he could feel the victims' screams. It made him freeze once again. Arthur pulled him out of the way again and behind a tree so they could attack from behind. He shoved Merlin to the floor.
"What the hell, Merlin? Now isn't the time to become scared." Arthur heard a roar and then turned to see the beast above him. It was his turn to pale and freeze. He glanced to the side and found that his knights had been injured and were trying to get to him. He looked back at the beast to see it lunging at him. Time then seemed to slow down. Merlin jumped up from the cold floor, wrapped his arms around Arthur and pulled him aside. He pushed Arthur down and turned towards the beast. Now was the time for the spell. He was about to say the spell when he felt teeth sink into his shoulder. He screamed out in pain and then felt his life starting to slip away. The Ekimmu was sucking his life from him. Merlin looked at Arthur, who was horrified and knew he had to risk his secret to save him. He then managed to turn, which caused him to lose some of his shoulder. Merlin then yelled again and then made eye contact with the beast. He used his magic to push it away from him.

The beast went flying away form, releasing him from the deathly grip. Merlin fell to the ground and was numb. Arthur came running towards him and helped him up. He didn't want Merlin to die. He liked Merlin. He looked at Merlin's shoulder and found some flesh missing and a huge bite. It looked nasty, but it wouldn't be enough to kill him. He was grateful Merlin had saved him and knew he had to return the favour. The beast roared again, furious that he hadn't made the kill, and charged towards Merlin and Arthur. Arthur went to push Merlin when Merlin pushed Arthur. He used his strength to push Arthur to one side and face the beast. He ignored everything around him and let the dragon's spell come to him.

Merlin felt the magic flow through him and let the spell's words come to his lips. He shouted the spell and felt the magic travel from him towards the beast. The Ekimmu stopped and began to roar in pain. Merlin continued in the old religious tongue and focused on the spell and destroying the Ekimmu. The Ekimmu then let out an almighty roar and then shattered. It was destroyed. As always, Merlin felt exhausted after the spell and then felt the pain in his shoulder. He turned and looked at Arthur, who was staring at him. Arthur looked full of hurt. Merlin felt the life drain from him, and he found himself falling forward, and there was nothing he could do. He then felt unconsciousness take him. He fell to the ground unconscious.

Arthur was still stunned. Merlin had magic, and he never knew. He felt hurt and betrayed that Merlin had never told him. He thought Merlin, and he was close but could see why Merlin didn't tell him. Magic meant death. Arthur watched Merlin fall and then snapped out of shock. Merlin was still his friend, and he had to help him. He rushed towards Merlin and shouted at his knights for help. They managed to come closer and gasped at the sight of Merlin. They lifted him to a horse, and they all knew Merlin had to return to Camelot before it was too late.
