Step One
Put all of his things in a shoe box.
Put the shoe box in your closet
buried deep under piles of clothes.
Never touch it again.
Step Two
Do your best to avoid him.
When you run into him
act like you are walking through him.
Do not give him the satisfaction
of letting his presence affect you.
Hide your face.
Step Three
Drown your fears in water.
Whenever he comes up in conversation
take a large gulp.
It is safer than alcohol.
Step Four
Perfect The Smile.
The one you use when you see him
or when his name is mentioned.
Nobody knows what you're hiding underneath.
Step Five
Begin smoking weed.
Perhaps the smoke signals will
scare him away.
It only reminds you of him.
Step Six
Throw yourself into your work.
You may get straight A's but
no one will congratulate you.
Throw yourself a pity party.
Step Seven
Be OK with being alone.
When everyone is gone with him
that is when you mourn your loss.
You don't let anyone see.
Step Eight
Become invisible.
Let the crowd swallow you up
and forget about you
just like you tried to forget about him.
Do not speak.
Do not move.
You are alone.
Isn't this what you wanted?
