He wished she would have stayed. He wished she didn't have to go. He wanted to hold her close to him forever, but like everything else..It went wrong. She told him that she needed to go. He protested, but she denied him and persisted on her mission.
His mind was constantly on her, he watched as she flew away in her pelican. She was gone, and he had done nothing. He felt a hole in his heart, one only she could fill. But now she had gone off. Alone.
Days turned to weeks. Weeks turned to months. He waited, fighting the urge to harm himself. He managed to pull himself together day by day, but he knew. he just knew Ohio was gone.
Chief swung his legs over the edge of the bed, and stretched. He stood up and went through his daily routine of showering and such. The dark room was eerie, unlike the previous days. But he paid no attention to it.
She was faded. The great battle left her in ruins. Ohio had been fighting with all her strength, and she did put up a good fight...but it wasn't enough.
It was NEVER enough. She was never good enough for anything. That was her only explanation. Ohio had always old herself that she wasn't good enough, and that is why she was used as a pawn in some secret experimental project.
Chief Sat in his room in the silence. He sighed and thought to himself. It's never enough. Not even my love for her could keep her with me. I'm a failure. He tapped his finger to the beat of the music playing in his earphones, only making his pain worse.
When Ohio stumbled back to her pelican, she had already lost her team. What more could she fail at? She disregarded everything and started the pelican, quickly flying back to the canyon That they had found before.
Chief heard the pelican outside his cabin, and looked outside. What he saw made his heart skip a beat. He threw on his helmet quickly and ran outside as that pelican landed roughly.
Ohio kicked down the hatch door and stumbled off the ship, her armor covered in blood splatters. Broken and battered, her visor was cracked and she was...broken as well...
Chief had hoped that she would run up and hug him, and then he could tell her he loved her, but that did not happen. Instead, she collapsed. She could no longer support herself, that and she couldn't take it.
Master Chief ran up and slid to her side. Every word he spoke was like a silent raindrop that fell to her. He shook her shoulders gently, hoping that she would respond. She stayed quiet, not saying a word. He took off her helmet, and saw many more new scars that have not been there before. Her vibrant silver eyes were now a dull grey.
Chief reached up to unclasp his helmet, but her voice cut sharply through the air, "Don't let a mistake waste your time."
"You aren't a waste of time, you are the one I.." Chief hesitated.
She pressed her lips into a thin line.
"I...love you.." he took off his helmet and set it aside.
She looked up at him, her expression still the same. Chief cupped Ohio's cheeks and pressed his lips to hers gently. She responded by kissing back, wrapping her arms around his neck.
Chief wrapped his arms around her waist, and pulled away, pulling her closer. He had missed this, the extra thirty minutes they had wasted in the morning just holding each other close.
Her voice was soft and sweet, "I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"Hurting you."
"All that matters is that you are here now, Alice."
She smiled and closed her eyes, wishing that this moment could last forever. Wishing that she could be with him forever. Hoping that one day they could be something more than what they already were.
For the first time in a long time, Chief smiled. Feeling Ohio close to him again fulfilled his needs. The longing he had for her touch was no longer there. The need to hear her voice was not there. She was here. She was okay.
