A young girl sat beside who seemed to be her older brother. Her brother had his vision focused on the screen that displayed a game. The game peaked her interest, so she asked.

"What's this game called?"

"It's called Halo 2," he replied.

She watched as he maneuvered around the screen, in search for something. So she asked again.

"What are you looking for?"

"Cortana," he answered again.

She watched in slight confusion, but nodded her head slowly.

"Damien?"

"What?" he glanced at her, then back to his game.

"Who are you playing as?"

"Master Chief," he answered.

She watched the screen again. She watched as the character he played obliterated enemy forces and powered through waves of them like nothing.

"How can he do that?"

Damien replied, "He's the Master Chief, he can do practically anything."

She giggled slightly, amused by this new awesome game. She took a liking to the main character though, for he was strong, powerful, and fearless.

The following morning, she sat up in bed and looked at the bunk bed above her. She sighed quietly and sat up, careful to not bump her head.

The six year old was usually happy and excited to start the day off, but given the events of the precious day...

The girl ran down the stairs and to the dining room, excited to go home back to her mother. She had waited a whole two weeks and she was eager to get back to her mother.

She saw her step mom, step sister, and father at the table. Perfect. She ran up and jumped into a chair, her excitement barely containable.

"When am I going back?!" she bounced with excitement.

"Back...where exactly?" her step mother inquired.

"Back with my mom! When?" she pressed on.

Her older step sister chimed in, "You aren't going back! Your mom doesn't want you anymore!"

"Yeah, she abandoned you with us," her step mother added.

Her smile faded. Her heart sunk. Tears formed in her eyes, and her father didn't do anything to stop them. She backed away and shook her head.

"N-No...My mom loves me..."

"Then why'd she leave you here?" her step sister questioned rhetorically.

She shook her head and ran back upstairs. She hid in a little indention where the dresser and the wall met. She sunk down and cried, believing the lies they told.

She just wanted her mother back, it wasn't fair. But she accepted it.

Tears formed in her eyes as she thought about the previous events. She wanted to say it was false, but deep down she forced herself to believe it was true.

She laid back down, facing the wall. She wrapped herself in blankets and sobbed quietly. She felt herself slippy away, her heart hurt and she didn't know how to make it feel better.

After awhile, she climbed drearily out of bed and downstairs. The darkly coloured walls only adding to the hurt she felt.

She glanced around to see her step mother on her computer as always. She wandered into the living room and looked outside, it was still summer, but she had no interest in going outside.
