There's This Guy. He Lives In My Room. Oh, Yeah, And He's A Ghost.
Chapter 7
Finns POV
After chatting for a while, I have to ask Taylor something. "Taylor?"
"Yeah," She replies.
"Are you ever going to tell me how you got in the house?"
"No."
Blunt much? "Why not?"
"Because. I would be breaking my promise."
I'm sure I look blank- I've completely forgotten what her promise was. Taylor sighs, but continues. "I said that I'm not going to talk about Miles being a ghost."
"But what's that got to do with how you got in?"
She looks at me like I'm crazy. I probably am. "Miles let me in."
Taylor POV
I could see the anger slowly creeping across his face, and I held my hands up in surrender. "Hey, hey. Calm. I knew you were going to get mad, so I made the promise. Okay?"
He watches me for a moment, then nods. I grin at him. "Good. Now we can be friends."
He grins back, the easiest one I've seen yet. "Sounds good."
I glance at my watch, then blanch in horror. "Crap! My little brothers swimming lesson! I gotta go!" I jump up, grabbing my bag.
"Okay," Finn says. "When will I see you again?"
I give him a smile. "Soon," I say.

I ring my mom while I'm on the bus home, apologising profusely. She says it's fine, I'm not that late. I get home, grab my brother, Kaiser, and go. When Kai is in the pool, splashing around, I can talk to Miles. I don't have to say anything. He reads my look. "We have to give him time," He tells me. "Finn doesn't believe in all this, especially if its about someone he knows."
Something's bugging me. "How old are you, Miles?" I ask.
"If I was alive now, I would have just turned 16." He answers. "Why?"
"Because you can be funny, and fun. But sometimes, like just now, you sound so... old."
"I died, Taylor. I had to grow up," He tells me softly.
I feel tears prickling at my eyes. "But that's so sad."
"It's life." He pauses. "Or afterlife, whatever."
***
I tell Miles that I think it would be best if he lets me go and see Finn on my own. I don't want him to do something, which he probably would, that I would be left to explain. He agrees, reluctantly, on the condition that he's allowed to be fairly nearby.
Which I also agree to.
I have loads of time to get to know Finn, as it's summer vacation. Obviously, I have to do other stuff too, family stuff, you know, but my days are mostly free. I have to be careful with what I say around Finn. I want to talk about Miles, but I made a promise, and I keep my promises.
Always.
Miles, lounging on my bed, interrupts my daydream. "So, when are you going to see him again?"
"Hm? Oh, tomorrow, I guess. I have nothing better to do." I make it sound like I can't be bothered, like it's a chore to be done, but I'm actually quite looking forward to it. I'm starting to like Finn.
"Don't you want to arrange it then? I doubt he'd like you turning up on his doorstep when he's in the shower."
I laugh. "In a minute, mom's using the line."
"Okay,"
"Miles," I say. "Where are you parents? In all the times I've been to your house, they haven't been there."
"Oh, right." Miles looks uncomfortable. "They work a lot, out of the country, you know. We had loads of Nannies, and then when he was old enough, Finn looked after me."
That's sad.
I nod.
Then I hear my mother saying "It was lovely speaking to you, Sandra. Bye!"
"Ah-ha." I reach for my phone. "Er, Miles?"
"Yeah?" He asks, impatiently.
"What's Finns number?"
"Oh, right," He laughs, and tells me it. I type it into the phone, and listen as it rings.
I tap my fingers on my desk, impatiently.
"Hello?" Finn.
"Um, hey, Finn, it's me." In case he doesn't know who 'me' is, I add "Taylor."
"Right, okay." I can't tell whether or not he's pleased to hear from me.
"Um, anyway, I was wondering If I could come round tomorrow, say, lunch time?" I ask, nervously.
"Sounds good."
There's a moment of awkward silence, until Finn breaks it."
"Uh, Taylor?" He says. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure," I say, curious.
"How did you get my number?"
Crap.
So much for being discreet.
