Since Margarita overspent at lunch, she could only afford to fill up her tank 3/4 of the way. For the rest of the week, she was going to have to be careful how she spent her money until she got paid again. The drive home only took 5 minutes but, it felt like 15 to Margarita. Her period was really taking a toll on her. She was exhausted and irritated. It was for the best that she went home instead of hanging out with Sunshine. Once Margarita arrived home, she parked her Ford sedan in her house's two car driveway and manually rolled up the window before stepping out of the car and locking the door. Entering her house, Margarita took off her shoes and went straight to her bedroom. She dreaded climbing the 10 steps to her bedroom for she saw it as another obstacle preventing her from getting to her warm bed. Margarita placed her purse on her dresser and then laid down in her bed. She was comfortable and on the edge of sleep when suddenly the urge to go to the bathroom came over her. Sighing, she stood up and went to the bathroom and used it.
'Shoot. I almost forgot to text Sunshine.', Margarita thought as she took her phone from her purse and plugged it into the charger.
Heyyy, Boo, Im home. Sorry about leaving so early and acting like a fuckboy when I got my period. Im just not feeling well and really tired. I promise to make it up to you. Forgive me? Margarita texted Sunshine. Not even a minute later she got a reply back.
Hun its ok. im a little mad but i understand. periods suck. im just happy your safe.
Thanks for understanding. Im going to take a nap now. ill talk to you when i wake up. Margarita replied as she added 3 kissy face emojis to her text.
Kaykay.
Margarita looked at the time on her phone- 3:37pm- before checking to see that her phone was maximum volume and gently putting it down. She then crawled into bed and fell asleep. Margarita had a dreamless, peaceful sleep that was taken from her all too soon by the sound of her phone ringing. At first it was distant sound but, it became louder and persistent to the point that she had no choice but to wake up. Sleepily she sat up and stared at nothing as she tried to gather her bearings. Margarita was forced out of her trance when her phone began to ring once again. Mila J's "My Main" blared from her phone. Yawning, she leisurely made her way to her phone quite annoyed that her nap was interrupted. Knowing that it was Sunshine by the ringtone that played, Margarita answered the phone.
"Hey, Sunshine.", Margarita said as she looked out her bedroom window. She noticed her parents' car wasn't there.
"Finally you answered the phone. I was so worried something had happened to you." Sunshine said. In the background, the TV could be heard faintly.
"Why were you worried? I told you I was taking a nap.", Margarita said as she made her bed neatly.
"There are zombies. I'm so scared and freaking out."
"What?"
"I said "there are zombies". It's all over the news w-"
"What are you talking about? Is this some kind of joke?"
"No. I'm serious. Look it up."
"Hold on." Margarita replied as she sat down at her desk and her turned her laptop on. About a minute passed before she was fully logged in. Quickly typing in the search bar "zombies", dozens of articles and news reports came up. All of them discussing the dead walking around in Nevada.
"Holy shit. You were serious. Are you okay? Where are your parents? Are you safe? Where are you?" Margarita said as she began to panic. She went onto Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr only to see post after post about the zombies.
"I'm home. I'm okay for now but, I'm so scared. My parents aren't home and I'm all alone. What should I do?" Sunshine replied. Margarita could hear her breathing through the phone. It began to get louder and faster.
"Calm down. I'm coming over there now."
"What?! You can't. Nevada is in a state of emergency. They said to stay indoors and out of sight. You have to follow the rules."
"I don't care. I'm not leaving you by yourself in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. Fuck the rules."
"But wha-"
"But nothing. I'll be there as soon as I can. Call me if anything changes. I'm going to try to figure out if our parents are okay."
"Alright. Please don't die on me." Sunshine said as she gave in.
"I'll be fine. See you soon. Bye." Margarita said as stood up.
"Bye."
Margarita hung up the phone and looked at the time- 7:26pm-. She had several notifications and messages from various apps and people. For a few minutes she sorted through them. Answering the messages she received from friends and family deciphering the information from the apps. She called her father's phone. All she heard was the "busy" signal. Margarita didn't bother calling her mother for she had this annoying habit of leaving her phone at home. In fact, Margarita can count on one hand how many times her mother actually took her phone with her. Feeling a bit worried, Margarita began to get ready to leave.
