I feel two firm hands shake me roughly, and I'm jerked awake. The first thing I see is two piercingly blue eyes, wide and glassy, staring right at me.
"...Hey... You okay?"
I say with a yawn. All of a sudden, the events of the past couple of hours come flooding back into my memory. I gasp loudly before sitting up and staring back at Taylor in renewed disbelief.
"Do you... know?"
Taylor asks, her voice shaky. I take her hands in mine and nod my head softly.
"Yeah, yeah, I do. I- uh I tripped over the bin and the test fell out. But, I want you to know-"
I am interrupted by a loud wail from Taylor, and the next thing I know, she falls into my arms and nuzzles into my neck, a stream of tears staining my shirt.
"Harry, oh no, I- I am so sorry! Last night it just suddenly occurred to me, what with the- the cravings and the throwing up and- I- I went out to get the pregnancy test and took it and it- it was positive and I just freaked and I- I couldn't-just couldn't tell you because it was a complete accident and I just-"
Taylor's speech is frequently interrupted with uneven hiccups and loud sobs. Taken aback, I try to rub her back and comb through her hair with my fingers in a mild attempt to calm her down.
"How- how could we have ever let this happen? N- nothing's ever going to be the- the same! We're so dumb!"
Taylor cries out, clutching me tighter. As she shakes miserably in my arms I decide to try talking.
"Look, Taylor, I can understand why you're upset about this. I was too, at first. But I called up Niall and-"
Taylor sniffles and looks up at me with wide, curious blue eyes. I continue,
"-He made me realise that maybe this isn't as much of an awful mistake as we're making it out to be."
Taylor hiccups, then feebly punches my arm.
"Harry... w- we're having a baby. We can't- can't handle that! And neither can the public or- or the paparazzi or our families-"
She grips the collar of my shirt. Trying not to cry simple because she is, I kiss the top of her head and lower my voice.
"If we tell people the news slowly, it'll be fine. Y'know, first let them know we're together, and then, maybe a month later, let them know you're pregnant. Niall reckons people will be happy about it, babe."
"N- Niall doesn't have the a- answer to everything. And th- this is pretty huge news to tell people. It- it's going to be really difficult and-"
Her voice shakes with each word and her fists close tighter around the material of my shirt. Maybe it's the pregnancy that's making her so upset, but I highly doubt it right now.
"It might not be easy, but come one, us two can handle anything. We've been through a lot, haven't we? It doesn't have to be so horrible. Besides, we're both taking breaks this year. We'll be able to make time for this. Look, whatever happens, we can face it as it comes, together, alright?"
Taylor says nothing, but I listen intently as her breaths gradually become less stunted, and her frame stops shaking with sobs. I can tell I've gotten through to her and she's finally warming to the idea.
Taylor:
It's the next morning and Harry's fixing up his hair in the mirror. Grinning, I sit up, and Harry catches sight of me behind him in the mirror. Turning around, he shuffles over to me, one hand still fiddling with his hair. I feel Harry's warm hand move immediately on my stomach, and he says softly into my ear,
"This baby is going to be so beautiful,"
I smile at this before playfully pushing him off of me and climbing out of bed.
After having brushed my teeth, washed my face, and applied a layer of makeup, I pick out a short black leathery skirt and a fuzzy white cropped sweater, realising that I won't be able to wear nice clothes like this for much longer...
Harry's waiting on the couch, and he glances up at me, as I place a tender hand over his knee, shuffling closer to him.
"Harry, you know we're going to somehow let the world know we're back together. Really soon, too."
Harry nods and says,
"Yeah, I know. I was actually just thinking about that."
"So, then, how do you think we should do it?"
"Well, at first I thought we could just go outside hand in hand and allow ourselves to be papped, but I think people would assume it's just a publicity stunt. And I don't think either of us can handle that drama right now."
I nod, frowning as and we both sit silently for a minute, thinking. Eventually a seed of an idea plants in my mind.
"Well, Harry, why don't we just get someone to film us, y'know, being a couple. Then they can post it somewhere, like- like Instagram. And we can pretend we didn't know it was being filmed, and then it can't have been a publicity stunt..."
Harry seems to think it's a good idea.
"Oh yeah! Let's try that. Why don't we ring someone and ask."
"Cara!"
I say immediately, grinning and jumping up, starting to fumble around in my bag for my phone. I soon tap Cara's contact and wait for her to pick up.
"Helloooo, it's me."
She muses. I sigh.
"Hey, Cara. Look, Harry and I need help with something."
"Is it Harry throwing up this time?"
I raise my eyebrows.
"No, Cara, I'm serious. Harry and I need you to help us expose our relationship."
"Oh my God! I am SOOOOO down. But why do you need my help with that?"
"Well, we thought you could film us, well, being a couple, then post the video and-"
I flinch and hold the phone away from my face as Cara lets out an excited squeal.
"Oh. My. God. YES! I'll be right over!"
