Chapter Sixteen: Start Again

Uma used one of the spells she knew by heart to disguise herself as Dizzy. She knew that Eric would never let her borrow her ship and who could say no to a little girl? So, she and Evie went to Eric to ask to borrow his ship. "Dizzy" gave puppy dog eyes until Eric gave in.
They decided to sneak away in the camouflage of the night. "I'll get everything situated," says Evie. Uma nodded and Evie headed for the ship.
Uma stood there for a while looking out into the ocean when she heard a rustling coming from the trees. She went towards it and realized it was Mal. She smirked, evil thoughts in her mind.
Mal!" She called. Mal whipped her head in her direction "What are you doing way out here?" Mal pointed towards the forest, "I was walking in the woods and I came across this glowing orb thing and it-" "Dizzy" grabbed her heart and Mal showed some concern, "Dizzy? Are you okay?" She looked at her necklace "Wait are you-..." she grabbed it to get a better look, "Dizzy, why are you wearing Uma's necklace?" Uma only smirked.
Mal asked again, "Dizzy? What's going on?" Uma said nothing. That's when Evie showed up, "Mal? What uh..." she checked behind her "What are you doing here?" Mal folded her arms across her chest, "I could ask you the same thing."
Evie forced a smile, "Um well... Dizzy and I were just taking a walk along the beach." Mal nodded, "Uh huh..." sounded fishy "Why is she wearing Uma's necklace?!" Evie looked at the shell necklace and pretended to be shocked, "Oh, that! We found this adorable little seashell and I fashioned it into a necklace for little Dizzy. Doesn't it look nice on her?"
Mal wasn't buying it, "Then Why was it glowing? And why was Dizzy acting so strange and suspicious then?!" Evie placed her hands on Mali's shoulders, "Mal. Are you okay? You look scared or confused or something. I can assure you... it was probably the moon or something reflecting on it."
Mal dropped her harsh expression, "You're probably right. I've just been so confused. It's just been..." she sighed "Like I was telling Dizzy that I found this glowing ball of light and it turned out it was..." she hesitated to tell them. Evie looked at Mal with her bright brown eyes, "It's alright Mal. You can tell us." Mal looked down. "Dizzy" nodded, "We're here for you."
Mal let out a long, hard breath, "It turned out to be my dad." Evie and "Dizzy" gasped "I know. I know. But... he's here and I don't know. I just came out here to clear my head. The sounds of the waves always calm me. And I even drew it once. It always makes me forget what's going on, even if it's just for a while..." suddenly, Mal remembered something "Wait a second. Evie... you-you had my spell book!"
Evie's eyes bulged. "Why did you have my spell book?" Mal probed, taking a step forward "You were the one that told me to put it in the museum in the first place." Evie steps back "You were the one who took it from me. You were the one who said 'We're Auradon girls now.' So why-please tell me- why did you have my spell book hidden in your dorm?!"
Evie said nothing. She looked to "Dizzy" for support. She was standing behind her and covertly handed her a vile. She felt it in her hands, she knew what it was. As Mal continued interrogating her, she put both hands behind her back, opened the vile, got a little bit of the dust in her hands, and then with one quick motion lifted her hand and blew the magic dust in Mal's face.
Mal stumbles for a while before dropping on the ground, asleep. Uma transformed back and let out a cackle, "Nice work, Evie. That was fun." Evie smirked, "Yes. Yes it was." And with that, they boarded the ship and set sail for Skull Island.

When Mal came too, she didn't immediately remember what happened. It was morning now. She sat up and rubbed her head. That's when all of the memories came back. She jumped up and looked out in the ocean, "Evie!!!" She yelled.
Was that Uma?! she asked herself.
She then walked back to the school and then back to her dorm. "Where have you been all night?" asked Hades. "I went for a walk to clear my head when I ran into Dizzy. But I don't think it was Dizzy, I'm pretty sure it was Uma  in disguise. Evie was with her and I confronted her about her having my spell book and then... I must've blacked out or something..." she sat down on the edge of her bed.
"Or something." Hades says.
"What?" Mal asked.
Hades chuckled, "You were spelled."
"I was? No... it can't be. Neither of them have magic." Mal said deniably.
"Unless it really is Uma." Hades says "Who was the last one you saw before you 'blacked out'?"
"Evie. But she doesn't have magic."
Hades gave a look, "Or does she."
Mal stood up, "B-But she doesn't."
Hades did the same, "Wake up and smell the weeds, kid! Evie's been lying to you or..."
"Or what?"
"Or... I don't know, she found magic somehow. But now's the time. You have motivation, you have answers. Doesn't this help you make your decision?"
"I don't know..."
"Everyone is trying to hold you back just so they can have the power, kid. Don't you see that?"
"I suppose I do..."
"That's the spirit! Now stop letting this happen and take some action!" Hades exclaimed.
"You're right. I'm done doubting myself. I have my spell book now. Let's do this."
