*Aisling’s POV*
Two weeks. It’s been two weeks since we’ve spoken. I’m lost. I guess this truly is it. I haven’t spoken to my family about it. I’ve put on a strong face and acted like everything is alright, putting my energy into my work, hiding the tears and trying to cover up the pain in my heart. I can’t believe he didn’t call me himself. Instead he was a coward and had Lance do his dirty work.
I sat down underneath my tree, watching Raine graze in the field. Picking up my phone, I stared at it. Should I call him? Finally I decided that yes, I would call him. If he didn’t answer, I’d give up. This is the last time.
I pressed speed dial number one and put the phone to my ear, hearing it ring. My heart stopped when the ringing ceased. I was waiting for the voicemail to pick up but what I heard instead made me gasp.
“Hello?” his familiar voice asked. I couldn’t find the words to reply. “Hello? Aisling, are you there?”
“Question is, are you there?” I said. “It’s been two weeks.”
“I know, I’m sorry. I lost my phone and I just found it up in the cabinet. I have no idea how it got up there,” he said.
I rolled my eyes. “I can’t believe you’re lying to me right now.”
“What? I’m not lying.”
“Bullshit. I’ve been trying to call you for two weeks. Lance told me how you feel about me, Hunter. You know, you could’ve just told me yourself that I was embarrassing you, ruining your job instead of having your shitting tour manager do your dirty work.”
“Whoa, babe, what are you talking about?”
“Don’t you dare call me babe!”
“Ais, please tell me what’s going on so I can fix this.”
“You can’t fix the pain your words engraved in me. Don’t act like you don’t know what’s going on. Why couldn’t you tell me yourself that you wanted to break up?”
“What? I don’t want to break up! I just wrote a –”
“Goodbye Hunter,” I cut him off and hung up.
I threw my phone across the field and buried my head in my hands, letting the tears flow free for the first time in two weeks.
*Hunter’s POV*
“You can’t fix the pain your words engraved in me. Don’t act like you don’t know what’s going on. Why couldn’t you tell me yourself that you wanted to break up?” she asked.
