Negativity and Cups of Water

I walked peacefully to Aden's house. Aden had a mop of brown hair that he had styled in a quiff. Unlike myself he had very good looks. I knocked on the wooden front door of Aden's house expecting Aden's mum to open the door.

Instead I came face to face with a grinning Aden. "Ellie! Ellie!" He said pulling me inside. I groaned as I tried not to fall over. I Hated when people called me Ellie or thought that my name was an abbreviation for Eleanor.

"Do not call me Ellie!" I growled. "Calm down angry tiger who escaped from the zoo just before feeding time and is very angry." Aden said chuckling to himself. I rolled my eyes. "Shut up," I huffed. Sometimes I wondered if Aden was actual 17 or a hyper 4 year old in disguise.

"Fine miss-grumpy-pants, today must have been pretty bad if your this grumpy. I can only imagine how much you wrote in your 'wittle' diary," Aden said cackling. Ever since he found out that I wrote in a diary he teased me about it non-stop.

I glared at Aden shoving him roughly. "Jeez, not so hard next time," He said rubbing his arm. He quickly recovered before speaking. "Seriously though, can I read your diary?" He asked excitedly as I rolled my eyes and shook my head for the sixth time. "One page?" He begged. "One sentence?" He said hopefully.

I dropped my bag next to the door and plopped onto the couch. This was basically my second home.

"You're no fun," Aden said dejectedly as he sat down next to me. "Life's not always fun," I simply said turning the TV on. "Stop being so pessimistic," He said rolling his eyes. "Stop being so optimistic," I said back.

"Your always looking on the negative side of things, you need to open your eyes to the more happy part," he said. "How am I supposed to do that," I said rolling my eyes.

"I don't want this to get all mushy but I'll say this, Instead of saying that the cup is half empty, say the cup is half full," he said. "What cup?" I said confused. "It's a metaphor, That's not important though, what's important is to think about the meaning" Aden explained.

"Are you trying to tell me that I need to drink more water?" I said still confused. "Never mind," Aden sighed giving up. "Back to your diary," he changed subject making me sigh, annoyed with his whining.

"Fine you can read it, only today's, don't get used to this because you aren't going to make contact with my diary any time soon other than now" I said getting up to get my diary.

I searched through my bag trying to find the hard smooth cover of my diary.  "Where is it?" I muttered to myself taking my English and Maths book out. I dumped all the contents out of my bag.

All I found other than my school books was a few blunt pencils, a broken sharpener, lots of bits of fluff, a note that Mia had thrown at me that said 'loser' and a picture of a giraffe. Don't ask why? just go with it.

"What happened to it?" I said pushing my hair out of my face. "What happened?" Aden asked from the couch. "I can't find my diary!" I said slightly panicking. My diary had a few personal things in it. There was also a whole two pages about how much I hate Mia and Quinn.

I never actually put my name in my diary. Before you all start yelling at me, I only did that so if I did lose it no one would have anything against me. But now I kind of regret doing that.

Other then Aden my diary was sort of like a friend. I know I sound crazy right now. But I spilled out me feelings whenever I was angry or sad. I felt kind of anxious that all my emotions I had felt and written in paper were just out there in the open for anyone to read.

Seth' POV

I sat on my bed with my legs crossed staring at the book across from me. I hadn't touched it since I got home. It sat on my dresser as if taunting me to open it. My curiosity got the better of me as I got up and went over to it in defeat.

One page wouldn't hurt, I told myself as I picked the book up. It was smooth and slightly heavy. I hesitated for a moment before opening to the first page. Neat handwriting flowed across the page.

Dear diary,  15-6-14

I froze for a moment. This was someone's diary, I shouldn't be reading this. One page won't hurt I told myself.

I won't start with some introduction so I'll just get to the point and write about my life.

My mum is blind. Yes blind as in can't see anything. My father died when I was eight and since I have horrible memory I barely remember anything about him.

I have no friends except for my cousin Aden making me a complete loner. Hopefully you enjoyed this sad, boring introduction to my life you creep who's reading my diary.

I shut the diary not wanting to read more. This was wrong, I shouldn't be reading this. But a small curious part of me wanted to read more. I turned the page carefully.

Dear diary, 24-6-14

There are these two girls at my school who are really mean. Mia, who is meaner tripped me in front of everyone in the cafeteria. I will never eat inside again. Also when Daniel Glynn or whatever his name was came into my classroom a girl threw a piece of paper with her number on it at him! I don't understand why it was a big deal anyways, Daniel and Seth aren't even that cute! My mother kept asking me to iron her shirt, but I kept telling her that we didn't have an iron. That's it for today.

I Kept reading page after page even though I felt bad about it. As time passed in the diary the entries got longer, more open and more sarcastic, and in a weird creepy way I found the writer funny.

The girl was sarcastic, smart, spoke her mind and was kind and caring when she needed to be, well that's what I would imagine she'd be like. If this is all true I would make her my best friend. I felt like I was getting to know her on a personal level.

I paused for a minute, I have no idea who this person is. It could be a student a teacher or even a boy! Actually, it probably wouldn't be a teacher, or a boy since she wrote this: 'All the other girls my age only care about dresses, shoes and boys while I do not'.

So all I know about this mystery person is that they're a girl and they go to my school. I shut the book and tucked it into my bag so I wouldn't forget it tomorrow. I shut my bedroom light off and went to sleep.

Elle's  POV

I put my empty plate away as I grabbed my bag. I had calmed down about my diary and put everything back into my bag earlier. I stayed for dinner at Aden's but it was now getting dark so I was going to go home.

"You sure you don't want a ride?" Aden asked. "I'll be fine, plus it's not that long of a walk," I said rolling my eyes.  I slipped my bag on as Aden opened the front door.  "Bye Elle be safe!" My aunt called as I left. I smiled at her before walking down the street.

As I was walking I bumped into a hard figure. "Watch where you're going," A gruffly voice said pushing past me. I looked back at the person that I had bumped into before continuing my way home. Strange.
